That's fair. The movies haven't always "stuck to the script" where Fleming's Bond is concerned although I think Craig's Bond was actually more of a return to form even if he isn't a dead ringer for the literary Bond. If one wants to think of Bond as more of a "concept" than sure, he (or even she) could come from any background. There's considerable risk in going that route though, which is why it hasn't been done.
Probably the main reason why they wouldn't do it.
They would feel confident that continuing with the way they have will generate a certain amount at the box office and make a profit.
Taking a risk may pay off or it might cost them millions.

Studios are desperate for sure bets. Bond "as is" is generally a guarantee to print money as long as certain expectations are met.

Or that his agent royally f***ed up by letting the
cat out of the bag.
He might have needed some more convincing or wanted to.be the shot caller. I can see that. Seems a bit disingenuous given he's the face of "Kraven" though. Lol.

The actor will be linked to the character for a while. I would hope that the studio does not opt to try to link so many films back to a villian or organization. Fine for 2 maybe 3 films tops but hard to believe that there are that many levels for Bond to go through.

I don't care that much about this frachise, but this would be horrible. This guy has no charisma and looks generic.

Little update from here in the UK.

Sounds like the makers of James Bond are at loggers head with how the see the next James Bond.
Part of the problem, it sound like two actors in the lead for the role are not fans of 16 month commitment to each movie--the producers want to make a movie every three years.
The other problem is they are not sure what direction they want to go with the role. Whether to keep in actioned based or do action thriller

Interesting update from here in the UK(well I find it interesting). Some insight as why they has been such a massive delay in the next Bond movie.

Barbara Broccoli reportedly has the next script all set to go but Amazon films rejected it or asked for rewrites and gave the Broccoli rewrite notes. While Broccoli owns the Bond franchise, since Amazon bought MGM they own the distribution rights and believe they have the right to dictate how the Bond Franchise will look going forward.

So it looks like there is a power struggle behind the scenes with the Franchise. Will be interesting to see how it turns out

Saw ATJ is his supporting role in Nosferatu. In an otherwise first-rate movie, he was the weakest thing in it. Some of his line deliveries were wooden. Can't see him holding a candle to Craig.

I heard an interesting idea that the next bond movie should be set in the WW2 era or go back to the Cold War. That the modern Bond has limited options of a great story.

Either way if Amazon is running the show I’ll have little interest in watching them torch another iconic IP

update on stuff going on behind the scenes

This explains a lot of why there is such a delay

Recently, we seemed to learn why. According to The Wall Street Journal, big tech behemoth and the new owner of MGM, Amazon, has been pushing the rightsholders of the James Bond character, Eon Productions heads Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, into expanding 007 into a bonafide cinematic universe. Reportedly pitches included a Moneypenny streaming series on Prime Video and spinoff movies about other 00 agents. One wonders why not a return of children’s cartoon James Bond Jr. while they’re at it?

Apparently, Broccoli has so far said absolutely not and allegedly called Amazon execs pushing for supersizing 007 “f***ing idiots.”

God I f***ing hate all of this soooooo much. I hope the Broccolis just hold out indefinitely at this point. Amazon will eventually cave. No Bond is better than whatever trash "execs" want to churn out.
The problem is the deal signed with MGM before Amazon bought it.

some fun comments

According to the WSJ, Broccoli has told confidants that Amazon, a company built on selling consumer goods, is ill-equipped to handle the nuances of a globally iconic character like Bond. When Amazon executives floated the idea of creating Bond-related TV spin-offs, Broccoli’s sharp response was reportedly, "Did you read the contract?"

If Broccoli actually said that, she has massive balls no doubt about it

insight into the friction between the two parties

EON does more than just Bond movies

I just heard an interesting idea: bring back Pierce Brosnan for a one-off, similar to Connery's return in Never Say Never Again. He's 71, but still looks good and it could be a less physical, more gentlemanly spy thriller that revisits the franchise's roots, which older fans might appreciate. It would allow them to put a Bond movie into the pipeline while they continue to fight over who the next Bond will be.

I'd be pretty happy with Henry Cavill. No idea who Lucien Laviscount is but Cavill would definitely bring some strong continued interest in the movies.
I like the idea of him being Bond as well but when I watched The Man From U.N.C.L.E. I found it very boring, it reminded me alot of Bond. I just hope that if he does become Bond its more exciting.
Craig was pretty awesome. I kinda rather someone younger, an unknown or something

One report here in the UK said that Amazon wanted Loki as the next bond

Eh. Not that Hiddleston isn't v solid. But you've already got another Night Manager season coming next year, Spy-Hiddleston isn't so good that we need more than one.

Sounds like the next James Bond movie wont start production anytime soon. So Night Manager 2 would be done a dusted by the time Amazon and Eon get their act together. I agree he would not make a good Bond unless they were bring back the Brosnen/Moore humour again.

Have to admit, I got board and decided to look around on line to see just how much conflict there is between Eon and Amazon and man, some of the things on line makes it look like it might be long time before we see Bond again. For the last Bond movie there was a 24 month production cycle. Started April 2019 and ended with release on September 2021
