Sounds like the next James Bond movie wont start production anytime soon. So Night Manager 2 would be done a dusted by the time Amazon and Eon get their act together. I agree he would not make a good Bond unless they were bring back the Brosnen/Moore humour again.

Have to admit, I got board and decided to look around on line to see just how much conflict there is between Eon and Amazon and man, some of the things on line makes it look like it might be long time before we see Bond again. For the last Bond movie there was a 24 month production cycle. Started April 2019 and ended with release on September 2021

Is that a typical timeframe or was that extended due to covid?

Like a lot of movies, the release was delayed multiple times due to Covid. It was originally supposed to come out in 2020. Not sure how much of the delay was because they were still working on it and how much was just waiting for theaters to reopen/business to return to some degree of normalcy.

But @Jumptheshark is right that Boyle had a few years on it prior to it shifting to Fukunaga. I think Craig needed a lot of convincing too. He was pretty vocal about being over the role.

Not shocked this is taking so long to get another one on track. There was a big break between Dalton and Brosnan too with a lot of "soul searching" about who and what Bond needed to be. Now you throw in a new partner like Amazon and that just mucks it up all the more.

"I would rather slit my wrists, than do another movie" Was his words during the Boyle time in the film. He hated the script. But also, there was a problem with how much Craig wanted. He ended up getting 25mill for the last bond movie and that a lot more than what the producers wanted to pay. He also was not going to do another movie unless he had control over a few things. He did not like how much of a bed hopper Bond was. Craig is reportedly happily married and did not want to play Bond the same way all others had done it.

something to bide our time till we find out who will be the next one.
I think Sam Neil would have been a good Bond back in the day

but here are some test shoots/Auditions for Bond

Rupert Friend had the best audition from the video.
But holy crap, we could've had Homelander as James Bond??

I can see why they ultimately threw out the youth idea and went with Craig. Good call on their part. Maybe the long delay is in part caused by hoping to get that lucky again.

Broccoli and Wilson are out. Horrible news to start the day with. I wonder what changed:

A statement said Broccoli and Wilson will "remain co-owners of the franchise" as part of a new joint venture but Amazon MGM Studios "will gain creative control".

Wilson, 83, said: "With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects.

"Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future."

Broccoli, 64, added: "My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli.

"I have had the honour of working closely with four of the tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry.

"With the conclusion of No Time to Die and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects."

This eventually was going to happen but I'm still a little surprised now that it has. End of an era, to say the least.

On the positive side this could lead to more freedom and creativity with the franchise.

On the negative side this could lead to more freedom and creativity with the franchise.

Yeah I would've thought they'd at least hold out until they could get their pick in for the next Bond. Then once he'd been established with a film, maybe then they'd feel better stepping back.

Regardless of quality, I think we know the product overall will be diluted. The days of Bond purely being an "event film" are very likely over. Maybe that's an exciting prospect for some, but for me, it's not the like "world" is particularly interesting or is rife with deep characters that need further explored. I guess we'll see.

My thoughts exactly. This is about to be Star Wars/MCU'd to hell. But unlike those properties, other than being big name IP, there's just not a ton to explore in the margins with Bond. Bond, the character, is the reason for being. I'm preemptively rolling my eyes at a baby Bond "origin" movie and I'm already disinterested with the inevitable show that'll explore MI6 and other agents beyond Bond himself. That's basically the Spider-Man-less Sony Spiderverse. What's the point?

I HATE pretty much most of the attempts to force continuity and lore onto James Bond and I'd imagine this is exactly what Amazon is going to do.

Now, putting my positive cap on. The things that now may happen that could be interesting ... maybe let a bona-fide director with voice and style take a swing at a movie? I'm generally a traditionalist with Bond. I like stand alone stories that hit all the key touchpoints. The Broccoli's notoriously shunned any attempts to break the mold. BUT ... as a one-off story I'm open to watching folks play around. We have 25 pretty traditional movies and while I'd welcome more of those, they don't all have to be that.

Would Steven Spielberg or Quentin Tarantino get a chance to make a Bond movie now? Both have said they wanted to in the past. Could be interesting!

The idea of a period piece Bond has been floated as well and I love that. Take him back to the 60s. Lots of potential there. Related, I'm even kinda open to going back to the original books and movies and ... gasp ... maybe revisiting some of those stories or ideas. They already toyed around with this in the last few Craig movies anyway.

Ha! Well put. Incoming prequel film for Oddjob

media here in the UK is having a field day with this. Sounds like Broccoli and co had been fighting a pitch battle behind the scenes to keep Bond somewhat as we know it, Between this and the announcement of American being cast as part of the Harry Potter TV series? ouch

Everybody has a price.

it is more complicated than that. Due to contract? Amazon could prevent any new bond movie from being green lite. Sounds like Amazon said.. No problem, we will just wait for you two to die or something like that. While Broccoli and co controlled the rights, Amazon controlled all distribution, TV, Streaming, Theatre and of course movie releases.

Tune in for Season 1 of Jane Bond! Streaming on Prime January 2027!

We haven't gotten a great Bond film since "Casino Royale" so this isn't completely disappointing. Amazon has little good faith to trust them with handling something like this however so I'm sure we're going to get a bunch of mid-content. Pending great reviews I'll be staying far away.

If Barbara is out, this looks like a Star Wars/Lord of the Rings type of sell-out here.
We will get lots of very mediocre content that is filled with all kinds of crap that doesnt belong in James Bond.
Wont be surprised if they turn Bond into a woman at this rate.
It's probably over as far as being something special that you look forward to.

I think Bond will become a TV character now. The movies were barely profitable and Amazon wants these IPs like LOTR and Harry Potter to seem like a big deal compared to Netflix and gets international subs.

This news sucks, I would love to be wrong but I really hope we don't get stupid tv spinoffs and they don't ruin this franchise. Just worried with how bad they fumbled the lord of the rings. Very awful news.
