Next expansion team in Las Vegas - How does everyone feel about it?

I'm mad the Panthers haven't been relocated yet.

I mean we have franchises in really difficult situations and they're talking about expansion...

Who's "we"?
If the Owner of the panthers are willing to take these losses in capital, I see no reason why you would care. I hope the Panthers prove successful over time, you'd probably get all depressed for no reason.

Québec clearly deserves a team over Las Vegas. Fans who live and breathe hockey as part of their national culture vs. casuals who won't fill a 10000 seat arena and couldn't care less about the sport.

But it's an easy choice for the commi$$ioner.

More potential dollars in Vegas, Seattle, Houston, Portland, KC... means any American market > QC. I hope all Southern markets flourish and QC never gets a team. This entitlement thing is ridiculous and quite annoying, QC lost a team so its time for them to wait their turn just like Winnipeg did, whether it be 1, 2, 10, 50 or 100 years who cares, give other cities a bone.

I dont know. If they cant make the NBA, NFL or MLB work in Las Vegas, how the hell do they make ice hockey?

Seattle is the real place for a team. I think the sticking point isn't the Canucks but the arena. If an owner could sell 14000 season ticket promises, and then build an arena, i expand there.

Canadian expansion is probably off the table to see where the Canadian dollar goes in the next 2 years.

I really don't care, Toronto area could sustain another but Quebec already had a second team and let it die, I wouldn't of given the Jets back either.

Let somewhere new have a team.

I would move Florida to Quebec, Phoenix to Seattle and only then think about expansion. Toronto needs and should get a second team unless Hamilton gets one. So they mess with the conferences and divisions again. They don't seem to care, so why should we. Portland would also be ahead of Vegas in my mind, but Bettman follows the $ and there is plenty in LV. With Anaheim, LA and San Jose driveable, I think LV would do well enough. There will be lots of empty seats that have been paid for in the LV lower bowl though.

Most are still mad about Phoenix, Carolina, Florida and Nashville getting teams and that happened 20 and 15 years ago. So yes if Vegas beats out Quebec the anger level will rise more. I still remember the day the tweet about Vegas came out and hour later the tweet included Toronto and Quebec teams, and people were still mad that Vegas was "announced" 1st.

Here's a preview of what a season game will look like
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this picture taken before a pre-season split-squad game that took place on a weekday afternoon? I'd like to see any other American city fill their arena in that scenario.

Even as a Canadian the last thing I'd probably want to do in Vegas is go see a freaking hockey game. Unless the team has a Crosby or McDavid, what's the point.

There are a billion other things to do, why do something you can do in any major Canadian city every second night? The whole point of going to Vegas as a Canadian is to do stuff you can't do in Canada and enjoy the hot weather.

In Phoenix OK, Phoenix is a pretty laid back city, there's not as much to do, in Vegas ... the strip is a non-stop party.

Correct it was a scrimmage and only scouts and team personal were allowed into the game. The second game that night had decent attendance.

It doesn't make sense for me that Quebec doesn't have a team yet.

The people are crazy about hockey, the junior team there draw close to 16,000 fans every game, then you have a hockey legend who just passed away having a national ceremony, adulated by many, considered a national hero, and will probably have a street named after him.

Good luck in Vegas Bettman

I'm not mad about it but I think it's a little dumb. Vegas is a destination and I'm not sure Hockey would be high on the list for people to attend. ie. If I go to Vegas, I'm not going to see a hockey game and I love hockey. I think the interest will be there and will fade after 2-5 yrs.

Look at the southern markets, Arizona, Florida, Tbay all struggle with attendance. LA, Anaheim, San Jose - will those markets be as successful without quality teams? I think those 3 will be healthy regardless I also believe they are drawing interest as they have been very good teams for the past several years.

I don't know that one HAS to be in Canada, I just think Seattle would be a better option. Maybe try a typical hockey market and see if that works out well?

More of Bettman's "experiment" crap. We keep putting these teams in weak markets. Why not put one in a decent market for once? Stick one in Seattle.

Did you hear his comments on the cap next year? It all depends on the Canadian dollar. If our 7 franchises are propping up the other 23, then maybe that little **** should throw us a bone once in awhile.

Imagine if Canadians got organized - and decided to support their local CHL teams for a while - exclusively. Maybe bettman et all would sit up and take notice then. They are happy to fawn over Canadians when they pony up to the cash trough for their taste of Socialism.

More teams in Canada = more money for the league. Yes - it's that GD simple!

I like it...kinda. Admittedly i have limited information on the topic but from what i understand the team is basically guranteed to make the league money. They are more concerned about the optics of having an empty arena. I also really like the idea of having successful non traditional hockey markets. It really can expand the growth of the game world wide.
Explain to me how an expansion to Las Vegas will "expand the growth of the game world wide".
This is nothing short of a money grab. ****ing gimmick team.

But then, do what ever. It's not like they need to cater to europeans.. I mean, how much revenue can come from merch and TV deals? Right?

I interpreted the LV season ticket drive as the NHL's acknowledgement that it's a pretty dodgy market and they need to do this to evaluate if people are interested. They don't need to do the same thing in Seattle or Quebec because they have more confidence in the markets. The LV thing is happening because an arena and owner is there. Seattle would happen at the same time if there was an arena already there.

Not mad because its just circumstances.

Quebec is ready to scoop up any failing team.

Bettman is dangling Vegas in front of Canadians in order to jack up the asking price for teams to be moved or expanded to Canadian markets. Vegas does not have a stadium, does not have an owner nor does it have a solid fan base. There are 5 or so other American markets that are in a better position to get a team before Vegas.

If Bettman truly wants to put a team there, than why not just move the Coyotes to Vegas, it is a short transition and will finally put an end to the drama in Arizona.

The only way I will be mad is if the team and fan attendance turns out to be a joke.

I get "mad" every time I see Florida highlights and the arena has 10 people in it. Not because I want another team in Canada, but because that kind of attendance is embarassing and makes the league look like a joke, and it pisses me off when I hear people talking about hockey like it's not a real sport.
