yea i didnt understand his comments.. i thought/believe you were saying about NEXT CAPTAIN what do we do if the re-up gio. he naturally would still be our captain.. another bad contract.. thats how i read it
 
This year, Gio is fine. The kids are still developing.

However, if by the end of the year our youg guys (Subban, Patches, Eller, Galchenyuk, Gally) are our leaders on the ice by a wide margin, I'd give captaincy to one of them. Probably Patches or Subban.

Show them they are the future of the team and you want them to stick around.

Right on.

The C should go to a top 6 forward or top 4 D ideally. If they sign PK to 8 yrs then he's the logical long-term choice since he's our most dominant player and shows up every game and playoff warrior.

Also, it would be cool to name the 1st black captain (I think?)

Nothing against Gorges but if the D is improved in the near future, he becomes a bubble third pairing and expandable imo. Great leader, though.

**** yeah Agnostic! I think Subban is perfectly good with people off the ice and we KNOW he dominates on the ice. He always works his ass off and can carry a team himself.

Never mind. Gorges will be the captain. Pleks and Markov with the A's unless Markov wants it.

I'd like Patches and PK to have a letter but that probably won't happen for some time.
 
What if captaincy becomes an element in the bargaining of Subban's next contract?

Give the guy the C, have him sign less than he could so he shows he wants the team to come first and be able to sign other elite players.
 
Gorges and Prust make great As, but I really don't like the idea of a captain who could be easily considered trade bait. You don't need to be a superstar, but grinders and bottom pairing defenders getting the C full time gives off the wrong message to me.

Should be Subban. Will be Gorges, unfortunately.

Yeah I can't imagine one thing Gorges could talk about doing that Subban can't ACTUALLY DO .
 
Subban or Pacioretty. Put it on a guy who you know will be here for long time. Those 2 also have good influence in the dressing room (so I heard) are good with the community, charity works etc., and are comfortable representing the team.

I'd be ok with Gorges, but I have a feeling it would be a short tenure with the C.
 
I was at a Guelph Storm game last year and during the intermission the Timbits came out to do their thing. While watching this spectacle I noticed that every single player, even the goalie, had a C on their jersey!

Maybe Montreal can do this, that way no one feels left out.

I bet the mother for the worst player on the team came up with that idea.

Wouldn't be surprised if Desharnais mother doesn't slip that one in the suggestion box.

Thats enough for me

Guys like Markov, Gorges & Pacioretty haven't done much in playoffs. Even if its because of injuries or bad play, it doesn't really matter.

I'd sign Gio for $2-2.5m for 1-2 years to play a 3 rd line role until Galchenyuk is ready to heir his throne. He will get the C over Subban because of his strong work ethic and because of Subban's perceived flashiness.

Don't really care about other teams. It's the way he competes in every game and the way he trains in the summer, that's the way the captain should be and a guy others should follow
 
Subban or Prust. I'm sure Ryan White is not the choice. My choice is Subban (c), Prust (a), Tinordi or Pacioretty (a)

If I'm MB at the end of the season, I call PK into my office and I have two contracts prepared, one at $8m x 8 years and another at $6.5m x 8 years and underneath it is a jersey with a C on it and I tell him to take his pick.

Give him the choice to be the first person to raise the Cup in 20 years for the Habs or make $12m more.

If he chose the C & $6.5m, he would be the next Saint in Montreal.
