Next Captain: Pasta or Mac?

Amazing Pastrnak was benched for an entire period 5 months ago to where he is now

He was encouraged to take a leadership role and he’s been unbelievable

McAvoy I believe would be a good choice and is with the team and I’m sure doing what he can but he’s not playing

Bruins are in very good spot with ego-less stars showing the way

No the gaps of captains after Ray and Z were pathetic. One of the most humiliating things the organization could possibly do to Bergeron bc he was the real captain no Chara.
Actually Chara was a very active captain. He was an excellent captain - one long time recently traded vet said he basically ran the team and Cassidy understood it ~ Krug was the upbeat fun personality. When those two left is when everything came apart

My 2 cents

I would say Pastrnak is learning on the job as captain having to carry the team through the roughest patch of the season and knowing they are out of the playoffs.

But leadership is a team effort. I think whomever the assistants, is just as import as who the captain is. Looking back at some of our best teams over the last few seasons there was always a supporting group of leaders on the team

2011 Had Ference, Recchi, Bergeron, Thornton
2019 Bergeron, Krejci, Marchand, Rask
2023 Bergeron, Marchand, Foligno, Krejci

Hmmm... I would bet your 2 cents on this. Not sure on your take if I remember one episode of Behind the bench! To lazy to search it though

It’s Pasta 100%. He has shown since the deadline that he is a leader. He could have packed it up and sulked out the rest of the year, instead he lifted his game even more. That’s a leader and I wasn’t really expecting that so he has me convinced

Pasta will be 29 next month (older than McAvoy), so they could do it that way if they wanted.
Give to Pasta now, then Charlie later. That's assuming they don't make some huge surprise deal in the offseason. We'll see.
Charlie has to be on the ice to wear it :sarcasm:

What has Mac done to warrant the C? Great shutdown guy, crap on the power play, likeable but no idea how he is as a vocal leader. Seems pretty quiet and reserved.

Pasta is capable of putting the team on his back. Clearly the team MVP. Very vocal, very passionate. Big personality that is marketable and very likeable. Only thing is he did say a couple years ago he doesn't want to be captain. If he's had a change of heart I pick Pasta 8 days a week.

That would be the only reason he wouldn't get the "C" IMO.

But looking at him now...He has stepped into the role as captain and is certainly acting "C" and handling it well.

Actually, if you were watching he has been growing into the role for a few years.

I have no preference either way. Both have a legitimate case and I really don't think it matters which one gets the C.

It's obviously Pasta's team

McAvoy is not a winner
Chuckle is no PPQB but is still a very good 2 way D man! I think that shoulder injury has been bothering him for quite a while and hopefully he will work over the summer to build up the strength in it to avoid a set back. Hampus is the one I'm most worried about.

Charlie is not a winner he says lol, He sure looked like a winner vs the best players in the world in the 4nations. To a player they stated he was the leader in the Canada game.

I still think we will go 3 A's next season regardless but the disrespect of McAvoy is laughable.

The Bruins better hope he's a leader or we are screwed

Charlie can't stay healthy .Best ability is availability

Playing physical defense takes its toll. For that alone he should be Captain material. This last injury was a freak one.

This not a knock on Pasta so don't take it as one, There is more to being a captain than leading the team in offense or talking to guys on the bench.

Listen to Sweeneys comments when Brick who hates McAvoy was personally nominating Pasta. He immediately brings up Charlie.

Lets wait and see after the roster is in place next season shall we

It matters to me when one is leading by example when he could have just folded the tent, while the other guy is out walking his dog :sarcasm:
The fact Pasta didn't fold is these guys have pride and care about their stats and their place in the league.

Plus making over a 11m a season might have something to do with it as well. He gets paid to lead the team in scoring and he's keeping his end of the bargain. Beside Geekie no-one else on the team has improved or played any different since Pasta is "leading by example" in fact they fold like a tent and quit under pressure just like all season.

And please for the love of God lets Brad stay in Florida and stop with this he will be coming back and take the C again.

Not going to happen.

Marchand is still third on the team in pts for the year and he was traded over a month ago. They'd be fools to not want him back.
