Glad to hear Morrow is going to take the offseason seriously. He's still a valuable piece of the puzzle
My love for Slavin grows year by year...the fact that Slavin emerged from this series as a +3 when we got absolutely f***ing caved in the first 3 games and that he was carrying Burns the entire time is absolutely astounding.
GET SKINNED RANTANEN!!!!Skinny scores!!
I am not a doctor, but even I think him brushing off surgery is a bad idea.
Did you even stop to think about the narratives and the effort people might have to make to put away their pitchforks and torches before typing that? For shame. After listening to Jarvis' full interview, I find Walt's and Cory's posts to be very misleading.
Jarvis said that he can play with this injury (just doesn't allow him to throw a softball....sounds like he can't raise his arm over his shoulder easily), albeit with more pain.
He also said that not getting surgery could benefit for the Olympics but he was thinking team (Canes) first (versus a delay just for Olympics). He believes similar to LY that a summer of rehab will get him ready.
I think the concern by many fans was that the knives weren't coming out quickly enough.Genuinely shocked at how quick the knives came out about Jarvis not wanting to miss his shot at the Olympics

We don't know he's not 100% from a hockey/mechanics point of view. Experiencing pain while playing hockey does not mean he's less than 100%.Because we don't want him playing at less than 100%?
If this wasn't a reoccurring injury, there'd be less worry about it. But he played the 23-24 season with the injury, did the rehab that off-season, and then re-injured it in the 24-25 season. And apparently the plan is to do the same rehab for it that he did last off-season. So the expectation is that he'll, again, have it re-injured next year.
I'm no medical professional, but I'm pretty sure antagonizing an injury probably isn't good for said injury and has a higher chance of making it worse, no?
Yes, he's 23. But that's a knock against him as well. How many of us remember feeling invincible at 23? How many of us are 10, 15, 20, 30 years older and are dealing with the consequences of the actions (or inactions) of our younger selfs? I can raise my hand on that. My back is all kinds of f***ed up.
If he’s talked it out with the doctors and trainers and relevant parties and they’ve decided to go with another summer of rest and rehab with the idea of doing surgery next summer that seems like the best compromise you could ask for. I’m confident that if delaying surgery another year put his long term career/effectiveness at risk both player and team would agree to get it out of the way now.Because we don't want him playing at less than 100%?

You’re right. Why would we expect accurate reporting or even a positive spin fromDid you even stop to think about the narratives and the effort people might have to make to put away their pitchforks and torches before typing that? For shame.
I cant find it but theres an old Brind'amour quote from his playing days where he said going from college to pro (AHL) was more of a shock than going AHL to NHL for this very reasonGlad to hear Morrow is going to take the offseason seriously. He's still a valuable piece of the puzzle
I wonder if his covering up for lackluster partners is his actual best use. Like, say he can run with a mediocre partner and still defend so well for the both of them that they give up x amount of chances.60. We find him an exceptional partner and they give up .9x chances/60, because there is less for him to cover for, right? So much of his skillset is wasted as he can be a bit more relaxed, but what does that get us? A few more pinches and offensive aggression from a mediocre offensive guy?I swear to God if we saddle him with another guy just to mask that players deficiencies....
The entire world saw how elite he is at the 4Nations, bring in someone that allows him to be that guy every night.

But say we get the same hypothetical exceptional partner and put him with someone else, where he is the one covering the bulk of the D responsibility. Maybe their expected chances go from y/60 to .7y/60 so the benefit to the team as a whole is minimized.
I guess what I'm surious is if Slavin is so damned good at covering for weak partners, why not utilize that and spread other strong defenders out? It's not like he is getting scored on a lot with the likes of Burns' corpse regardless, so where is the value add? In game 4 he was capable of basically dictating play by himself in the D zone. Why not use that?
Sure he will age and this will become moot eventually. And I do remember a season or 2 with Pesce where it looked like whenever they were paired together, the opponent had basically no chance. And that was a god damned delight to watch. But would pairing him with another elite defender be the equivalent of putting 3 forwards who are nothing but snipers on a line together as if there were multiple pucks?
