God I hate those things. I used to work at a restaurant that had a couple and they were nothing but trouble. We probably had to call coke once a week to troubleshoot issues, and they had to send a tech out at least 1-2 times a month to do more in depth maintenance.

They literally had to be connected to the internet to function properly, so if that went down or the modem attached to the unit went down they’d stop working.

HATE them.
These days any time I go to a place with one 75% of items are greyed-out (non-functioning), and it's usually Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, & Root Beer...like WTF is left?

OTOH, the fast food joint I worked at in college was old school. Syrup boxes in the back with plastic tubes leading to the drink dispensers, and I don't think it broke down once the 4 years I was there. Maybe one shift, but they got a tech out pretty much immediately to fix it.

When that happens it’s probably the high fructose corn syrup running out. In a traditional one like @Finlandia WOAT was talking about you just change out the box that is empty and you’re good. For a freestyle, when the HFCS runs out, none of the colas will work (if it’s diet drinks it’s something called NNS), and you just need to swap out a box similar to the traditional soda case.

That or the employees were too lazy to check the machine, which might actually be the more likely problem.

Worked in an amusement park food warehouse in college. We called those “bag-in-a-box”. They were heavy as shit. You got free soda with the price of admission so half our job was restocking those damn things. I don’t recall too many maintenance issues even with them being endless and self serve.

Great read about the players, their rookie seasons and who helped ease them into the NHL. Even got Rod to reminisce about his start and who he helped mentor (Spoilers...It's LaRose).
Man, even if it was Covid, the fact that Chatfield had *nobody* he could name is just utterly shocking and speaks incredibly poorly of the Vancouver organization.

I mean is anyone even remotely surprised given what's hit the press about the locker room there in recent years? This is the team that flat out went dgaf when an official tried to hand the players on the ice a puck for someone's first goal.

I'm shocked but not surprised, to borrow a term from our current political discourse. It's just a brutal indictment of that team culture to a level that I can't remember *ever* hearing about in the NHL.

This kind of shit drives me absolutely crazy.

It’s a ****ing soda machine, it doesn’t need to be connected to the goddamn internet

Me too. So many things do not need to be internet connected at all and yet companies keep trying to make them have that as a "feature."

I can't stand that the 70inch tv I spent a ton on just a few years ago (to replace my 15 year old tv, which still works just moved to a different room) had to be a damn smart tv with apps and internet connectivity which has resulted in it being incredibly slow and just flat out not working at times.

Also I've been a loyal xfinity cable subscriber for years and they tried to make me accept a box that had no coaxial input and worked only off of wifi. If I wanted to stream tv I wouldn't even have cable you clowns. Even the x1 box I do have with coaxial connects to the internet and has issues at times when the internet is spotty.

But I'm also an old school cranky old man (under 40 lol) who likes watching movies on celluloid and listening to music on vinyl.

I can even understand it with TVs, because of streaming apps and whatnot.

But my toaster does not need an internet connection. The soda machine does not need an internet connection. I have literally seen a goddamn coffee mug with an internet connection. It’s madness.

God help us all if there’s ever a power failure and we can’t open our doors because the locks are all bricked.

I say the same goddamn thing about practically everything that comes in a 'smart' version anymore.

Why the f*** do I need a smart tv? I just want one that produces a good image, I'm going to plug a Roku into it anyway, so f*** off with the smart shit.

Why the f*** do I need a smart microwave? I just want to heat the food, that's it, and I'm going to be standing next to it the whole time.

Why the f*** do I need a smart refrigerator? I just want it to keep food cold. That's it.

Etc.

And don't get me started on every company under the sun trying to roll out their own AI. No, Wells Fargo, I don't need anything AI from you. Please stop doing that

Trust me, well aware and I've worked on the system that is running it.

Which, it comes with a creepy ass AI head that talks to you as well (which most companies disable in lieu of a chatbox)

I can’t name company names, but the industry is working on an AI avatar that won’t be distinguishable from a real person.

Of course, they said that about the CGI in Phantom Menace.
