I think Peters is the one gone also and doubt anyone takes him. Back during his "hot streak" while Khodobin was out, people were saying "trade the guys that get's the most in return" and my view back then was that you keep Khodobin as he gives the team the best chance at winning..and at best, Peter's would return a late round pick or marginal NHLr. I don't think he had nearly as much value as some thought he did. If JR can get anything for him, that would be great. If not, so be it.
I was one of those guys, back when Khudobin only had a handful of games at the NHL level. He still doesn't have much, but he's just further added to his resume with strong play. I still think you have to keep Peters if Khudobin wants an amount that's just not doable, and I think you have to get him under contract before you move Peters, or else you give him all the leverage.
But at one point, before Edmonton got Scrivens, I think I remember they seriously gave consideration to trading for Peters, but JR wanted too much. Now his value has pretty much bottomed out.
Someone Photoshop Ward's face onto this guy: http://www.theonion.com/articles/horrified-man-suddenly-realizes-hes-putting-down-r,35102/
JR on SN. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/hc-noon-ward-in-eye-of-hurricanes/
"Semin is a great player when he wants to play"
He even admitted we overused Ward
On goalies: "I wouldn't put on on waivers, I know there's enough interest in any one of the three."
And also about what I was saying about Eric all along.
For some reason, I can't see the video. What did he say?
Problem is, Peter's resume of "playing well" was only a handful of games also. The rest of his resume was pretty weak and terribly inconsistent. I don't have any sort of inside information, but I find it difficult to believe that GMs would want Peters as a starting goalie based on a 10 game hot streak, based on all of his previous history. Even if someone like Edmonton did want him, I doubt they were going to give up much value for him.
Scrivens who was significantly better in the AHL and better in the NHL only got a 3rd round pick. If the Canes could have gotten even a 5th for Peters, I'd have been surprised.
Question: "Hey Jimmy, what about Eric Staal? You know, people say he started off so slow and yet, now you watch him against Columbus he was a man amongst boys ....(blah blah blah)... Has the Olympic snub bothered him or is he just a guy that goes in spurts?"
Answer: "Nope. He had a real serious injury at the World Championships. I don't think anybody's put enough stock in that. He's a guy that doesn't like to miss games, he never talks when he's hurt. Never uses it as an excuse. And he wanted to start at the same time as everybody but, if we could really get the whole story out of him I'm sure he'd tell you he probably wasn't ready to start training camp on time and probably should have taken a little longer and to me that's the reason he had a slow first half."
That's all I'm going to post on the matter. I don't feel like diving deep into this again. I shouldn't have brought it up to begin with.
To be honest, kicking the tires on Peters isn't the worst choice in the world for a desperate team. He's a UFA after this year if it doesn't work out, and he'd be unlikely to command a big raise if he did.
A picture of the Semin bobblehead has been released. Or should that be the Semin bobbleteeth?
I also like how they were very careful to make sure the socks were carefully detailed and textured to match the knit socks that the NHL hasn't worn since 2007.
Since when does Mick Jagger play for the Canes?
That JR interview was hard to listen to. For a guy that watches every game, he sure does sound like a guy that goes by the scoresheet. Putting way too much emphasis on +/-, ragging on certain players for not "showing up" while making excuses for others. And then there's the issue of having multiple players not live up to the contract he gave them, but putting the blame on the player rather than realizing he might have overpaid.
Wow, would have thought more players played in the NHL at 18.
Also noticed Jordan, Malhotra, and Dvorak on that list.
I hadn't realized how much more prolific 18-y/os were getting. I remember when Jeff Friesen was just unbelievable at that age, but now it's basically an annual thing to see someone blow his numbers away.
So in other news...Boychuk records his 2nd hat trick in last 3 games. A shame he isn't getting a bigger chance here, especially because he looked good while up here, but I know it's because of the 9 game limit for waiver exemption (whether we agree with that or not).
