I think he's pretty overrated, and he isn't good defensively. I've been saying it for years, but many around here really wanted him. Not this year, but 1-2 years ago.

Can't we get a pick for D'Agostini's rights? He's still gonna be an RFA so whoever picks him up will be able to sign him.

Or is it just that nobody will probably qualify him at what he's making now? That could very well be the case.

I'm not sure when the deadline to qualify a player is, but if we trade him before that and the other team qualifies him, they own his rights. Otherwise, he becomes a UFA on July 5

It is funny watching Rangers fans try and trade away players when they have down years and ask for the world.

Del Zotto is the latest case.

After the 1st year he is untouchable
After the 2nd year, trade bait
After 3rd year, untouchable
Now after last year, trade him but only for a top 10 pick, plus.

After next year, untouchable. Bargain contract.

After the following year, buyout candidate.

he's going to make more than crosby for the next 8 years? hmmm.

It's just a higher cap hit (and a reality of the new CBA). Crosby gets more actual money during that period - $83.4 million to be exact - since his contract coincidentally has all its $9-12 million cash years during the life of Malkin's extension.

If they're perceptive they probably structured the extension so Malkin doesn't get more than Crosby in any one year.

He's going to have a higher cap hit, but I'd wager that Crosby will have a higher/identical yearly payout. Crosby's making $12M for the next three years, $10M+ for the three after that.

correct - Malkin will make the 9.5 each year while Crosby is getting 12,12,11,11,10,10,9... etc. But by the end of the contract he will be getting more salary too.

Crosby and Malkin are worth that money, especially Crosby, because they can play with 2 million dollar players and turn them into 60-80 point players.

Ovechkin is not worth that money because he doesn't make his teammates too much better. That's why Washington will never win a Cup. Too much money invested into one player who can't maximize the potential of the cheap talent needed to compensate for his huge contract. Crosby and Malkin can and do.

Don't matter...NHL will allow them to take on a ton of contracts during the season that drive them far over the cap anyway...I hate how the cap system is sometimes.

they need to trade Letang

they will and they will get like a top 10 draft pick and a stud prospect or something

ugh

They'll trade Letang to an overachieving team with high aspirations, like the Islanders or Leafs. That team will regress hard and coupled with injuries, will have the 1st overall in 2015 and the Penguins will own the rights to that pick. Connor McDavid.
