We are establishing a hall of fame.

Last lines in practice before the first game.

Teravainen - Aho - Jarvis
Svechnikov - Kotkaniemi - Necas
Stastny - Staal - Fast
Noesen - Stepan - Kase

Slavin - Burns
Skjei - Pesce
de Haan - Chatfield
Bear - Coghlan

i would expect a Stepan signing today.

a little article to kick off the season Burnside: An Overview As The Carolina Hurricanes Enter The 2022-23 Season

Weird D pairings. Does this imply Chatfield will be in on Opening Night? Or that De Haan will be out?

Stepan did take league minimum. I guess with him take league minimum instead of 770k, he got 5k closer with Rees and Kochetkov instead of Drury and Stepan.

Maybe we expect to play Chatfield some on the road as he is a better defender and we are just getting Cdh and Chatfield used to each other. Cdh and Coghlan have played together plenty in camp. Maybe Coghlan didnt feel 100% after yesterday's practice, idk.

Expected to see Slavin at #1. Pleasantly surprised to see Burns at #2. That pair is going to be a brick wall.

Rod was on NHL Radio recently and said one of the main reasons they brought in Burns was to have someone to play against the best late in the Playoffs. I wouldn't be surprised to see Burns in the Norris running this year.
The potential for Burns to have a monster season playing with Slavin is certainly a possibility.

Among all the changes with this team, young guys developing, etc. I'm most excited about Burns. I think that pair with him and Slavin will be by far the best D pair in the league. Bold prediction, but I think Burns gets a new career high in points too. Burns is gonna be a combo of TDA and Dougie's offensive strengths who is better defensively than both.

He was ppg 4 seasons ago. Adding that from the back end to this team would be insane. Shit I’ll just be happy if he matches Dougie or TDAs output but provides better/more consistent play in the defensive zone.

I think an overlooked potential by product of this pairing is the Slavin's offensive numbers are likely to take a jump as well.

what is Ayres? 5th?

His .800 is next-worst after Lafontaine.

This alone is motivation for Lafontaine to get back in the NHL and not finish with a worse career save% than the Zamboni driver emergency backup.

Another odd bit of Canes emergency goalie trivia... everyone probably knows already that Mike Murphy has the weird distinction of a losing record (0-1-0) without ever surrendering a goal, but Jorge Alves might have an even weirder stat line. Alves played only 7.6 seconds, the shortest career in NHL history, while facing zero shots. Therefore, in formats that round to the nearest minute, Alves is officially listed having 1gp, 0 minutes, and a non-existent save percentage.
