The issue with the logo isn’t the “lack of defining characteristic.” It’s a hurricane warning flag. That is a clear defining characteristic.

The issue with the logo is shape and center-of-mass related. In adding the second warning flag, and showing the full hockey stick as the flagpole, they’ve created an oblong logo with no aesthetically pleasing spatial symmetry.

Sweeping from right hip to left shoulder, it leaves a ton of awkwardly empty space around the right shoulder. This is the source of the awkwardness; it’s why as soon as you put a C on the Williams jersey it doesn’t look as bad, the space is filled.

The reason adding a triangle is a good idea doesn’t have as much to do with finally having a “defining characteristic” (although the play on the local geography is clever), but rather fills out the other side of the logo to remove that negative space. Without it, anything the logo is printed on looks like it’s leaning slightly to the right.

Completely agree. That's where I think putting numbers on the front could work well

Another nice production by CanesVision (or whatever they're called now).

Vellucci just straight up stated that previous teams didn't work hard enough to be good. While it makes sense as a motivational talking point, that really does carry an interesting message about the guys who were key parts of those teams (some of whom are still on the roster).

It also reminds me of the Laviolette motivational tactics that the scheme wasn't the issue, it was failing to fully execute the scheme. That has been a major reason Lavi is going to have his longest career stop in Nashville after this season: what happens when effort isn't enough to make the current tactics successful?

We were also 5-2 last pre-season.

Washington Capitals also had the worst pre-season record in the entire league.

Maybe good teams mostly have vets who DGAF in the pre-season.

The team looks less sloppy this preseason....more like their heads' are in the game. I get the whole effort thing, but where I think I see a difference is that it appears they have more focus. The powerplay, for example, looked more like the guys knew what they were supposed to be doing.

On the post game there were even some comments to that regard. IE: along the lines of being more dangerous with 2 real scoring threats on the point it's also helping that everyone is on the same page instead of people trying to do their own thing which... yeah if that's not a Jeff Skinner reference I don't know what is.

This observation points to coaching. Peters gave these players 6 inches of breathing room within the system, with no room for movement. The system seemed to be a decent system, but did take away the individual abilities from our more talented players. Brind’Amour seems far more likely to say “you’re here because you’re a good hockey player, now go be a good hockey player.”

I’m struck by something Cory tweeted a few days ago:

I love this. Certainly a departure from what we are used to; if I had a nickel for every time I heard about all the good little plays Lindholm made.

There was another anecdote of Brind’Amour stopping PP practice to skate up to Svech and simply say “Andrei, I need you to be a shooter.” That’s outstanding and I love it. Andrei Svechnikov is likely a more talented hockey player than Brind’Amour ever was. He knows how to play hockey and knows how to be a shooter. Brind’Amour’s not taking that away by overcoaching. “You know how to do this, now go do it,” with more gentle and subtle coaching along the way.

Peters’s system seems as sound as they come, but I wonder what it did to neuter what talent we did have during his tenure here. We’ve got some kids that can play hockey; I’m hoping RBA gives them the guidance they need to succeed while also giving them the space and freedom to make big things happen. Focus on playing hockey, rather than focusing on playing a system.

Tripp even mentioned Skinner doing his own thing on the PP during the broadcast when they were commenting on how that PP1 unit was gelling.

What stood out to me was players getting to the net, Necas moving at the speed of light and Hamilton bombing them.

Necas playing around the perimeter with that speed and Hamilton’s shot is going to be a thing of beauty.

I know y'all around here were very high on lindy, but i dont miss him, especially with necas as his potential replacement. Hanifin still stings a bit, but if dougie scores more goals like last night it definitely eases the pain.
To me, it's the opposite. I'm fine with being done with Hanifin...in Hamilton, we got something that works much better with the personnel we have (defensive-D lefties). Plus, even with only limited knowledge of what Hamilton brings, I don't have a shred of confidence that Hanifin will get to the same level.

Especially now that Rask is out, Lindholm's departure is more of an issue. In lieu of Ferland, I wouldn't mind giving some of these kids a shot at a top-6 LW role for a while, but beyond Necas, there's not a kid who plays center that I'm willing to try out in a top-6 role. Say what you will about Lindholm being a disappointment, but he could adequately play the role of a top-6 center.

I'm of the same mind. I actually believe Lindy has that break out this year that we've been anticipating. I'm happy for him and happy about the trade. But I've felt all along, the piece that came with Hamilton that I'm most interested in isn't Ferland, it's Fox.

I do not believe in Hanifin, Lindy. I believe in Skinner, Ward. Wish they were here.

Who are we going to get to step in and provide barely passable goaltending once our starter inevitably falters now that Ward is gone?

I’ll always love the guy for 2006 but that’s a long time ago. Without being able to dump Darling we just couldn’t keep Ward. That duo doesn’t work. Mrazek may not being better but we had to at least try something different.
