Newest Proposal To Move New MSG Across Street For Penn Station Transformation

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Since old thread on this topic is closed. Not crazy on the new MSG design, but does seem like at some point in the future the current MSG will have to be replaced:

A move across the street yields the same issues that plagued the ice at the current MSG since the building opened. Looks like ice level is well above ground level on this rendering so the only chance of better ice is improvements in ice making tech.

As long as the Dolans own the arena, they will never move it.

MSG is a nearly 60 year building, Dolan will eventually have to replace it with a new arena with all the amenities and bells and whistles. The city and state are just waiting on him at this point. I don’t think it will be anytime soon, but the reality is this MSG shelve-life is closing sooner rather than later.

We all want a new, bigger building. But tax breaks are just too valuable for him to give up.

He likely will get some tax breaks once they negotiate a deal on this in 10-20 years imo. My opinion is fact on when not if a new MSG is built. Even Dolan knows the current MSG will need be replaced at some point, but he’s in no rush to do it in the near term.
