Since old thread on this topic is closed. Not crazy on the new MSG design, but does seem like at some point in the future the current MSG will have to be replaced:

A move across the street yields the same issues that plagued the ice at the current MSG since the building opened. Looks like ice level is well above ground level on this rendering so the only chance of better ice is improvements in ice making tech.

As long as the Dolans own the arena, they will never move it.

MSG is a nearly 60 year building, Dolan will eventually have to replace it with a new arena with all the amenities and bells and whistles. The city and state are just waiting on him at this point. I don’t think it will be anytime soon, but the reality is this MSG shelve-life is closing sooner rather than later.

We all want a new, bigger building. But tax breaks are just too valuable for him to give up.

He likely will get some tax breaks once they negotiate a deal on this in 10-20 years imo. My opinion is fact on when not if a new MSG is built. Even Dolan knows the current MSG will need be replaced at some point, but he’s in no rush to do it in the near term.

If the government fully financed a new building for him across the street and he got to keep the existing tax breaks as part of the new move, I don't see why he'd say no. It'd be stupid for him to say no.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I'm retiring soon. I just went through the renovation/building of Moynihan hall and it was a bloody nightmare (I work in the black building on the left in the video).
