he's speaking relative to how he feels now - he said he was good last year and is a competitor. he's speaking now post surgery looking forward to what he can get back to. its all context. he could obviously play at the nhl level and had been dealing with the hip issue for a long time doing it. we had plenty of time to evaluate what he was last year and made the trade. we gave up almost nothing.

I could see if Kane was bad against the Devils, yeah I'd be annoyed too. But he was one of the better forwards and was the best forward in game 7. It's not like he lost us games. And I don't buy the "Kane negatively displaced the forward units and ruined the PP" narrative.
