And he’s playing on the point half the time, along with Brod and Cuylle. Not like he’s out there with Fox, Panarin and Mika or something..

He’s been moving the puck around well and taking a few shots when he can. Not sure what people are expecting.

Also, he's had no experience being "the guy" on the PP in years since being drafted. That's the Rangers fault. They failed to develop him right. I've been saying it for years. They waited until now to figure out they should treat their number one overall pick like a number one overall pick, years after his draft. And we wonder why he's behind in his development.

Lafreniere just plays way too slow, it’s the number one problem he has more than anything.

Yup.

It's not to say he's a dumb hockey player. He processes the game too slowly to make the jump from juniors prodigy to NHL contributor.

It's such a difficult thing to scout until you actually see the player in a faster setting.

Whoever said he'd be a star in Europe nailed it. His game lends itself much better to a larger rink. More time to make decisions.

Even forget Laf for a second, I feel like his historic terribleness excuses Kakko who's a massive bust in his own right; Jack Hughes had more points last season than Kakko had in his career 4 seasons combined.

I'd like to know what the hell he was doing all summer if he was supposedly working on this.

To add to my original post, the Covid pandemic screwed any chances of seeing Lafreniere in a setting where the game plays faster like the World Championships. Also lost key development time in his D + 1 season.

I'd trade him at the deadline this year if the Rangers are in 5th or 6th by then, which is not likely bit not impossible depending on how injuries break. We're at this point looking at a reclamation project for reclamation project return, but maybe a desperate GM pays two 3rds or a 2nd for him to bolster their squad.
