Speculation: New York Rangers Offseason Status

If there are any SJS fans reading this thread, what would it cost to you from the Rangers to give up the #1 to move back in this draft? Or if you're at #2 or #3?

I keep thinking about Grier and his Rangers connections tonight
Can't see him moving off of 1
Hopefully not off of two either
3? Not that I'd want the Sharks to move back, but depending on the return...
And not the overpriced veterans whose contracts you're hoping to get out from under

Biggest needs is a 1D. I think Smith is our 2C of the future (some think 1W). Whichever Smith isn't, we need the other. At 2nd/3rd overall, Martone, Desnoyers, Frondell, Misa, or Hagens solves that spot. At 1st overall (or if we're lucky) 2nd, Schaefer solves the biggest hole.

After that we'd need a 2nd pair RHD. Schneider would be a really nice addition for SJ. Would I do 11th+Schneider for 3rd? No, not personally. I think the drop from 3 to 11 (or even 6 to 11) is significant enough that I'd rather solve my second biggest need, and deal with the defense later. I wouldn't be surprised if NYR declined this as well.

We absolutely need two top 4 d-men (with one being a top pairing) but 3rd overall is only available for the right first pairing guy. K'Andre Miller and Schnieder would definiely be of interest for something other than 3rd overall, but not sure what you need.

I’m not sure sjs would be a great trading partner for the rangers in a kandre/Schneider trade because I think the rangers prefer a hockey trade as opposed to a futures.

Like if rangers were tearing it down 2025 dallas 1st and 2025 sjs 2nd for kandre would be very enticing. But rangers wont do it

Makes sense- same thing with Byram in Buff. I think the challenge SJ is going to run into this offseason is teams with auxiliary d-men will want hockey trades, not futures.

Our only now asset that might be available is Eklund. That's only because Celebrini, Smith, Ek, and for the sake of discussion Hagens (my hunch is Grier prefers Martone, Frondell, or Desnoyers), are under 6'1. It's a small group though our top two prospects- Chernyshov and Musty are big lads. Eklund (and Celebrini who does it all) are our only two forward who really get in on the forecheck, so I'd rather build around him.
