New York Rangers from President's Trophy to Missed Playoffs?

It’s pretty embarrassing how bad they’ve become.

The funniest part is that they haven’t really dealt with major injuries and have no excuses - just been straight up trash.

And even worse, they gave up an upcoming first round pick in a desperate win now move and STILL will likely fall short of the playoffs.

How many top ten picks did they whiff on over the last half dozen years? Lafreniere, Andersson, Kravtsov, Kakko …
Such an opportunity lost.

It’s also a lot of badluck. Any other team would’ve “whiffed” on Lafrenière and Kakko

It's a deep-rooted franchise issue. We've seen this story one too many times. It's an organizational issue. It's either a ton of bad coincidences or there's something fundamentally wrong in the development of prospects/young players.

Rangers fans, what do you believe they do with their first rounder if it falls in that 10-13 range?

Do they ship it over to the Penguins or pick and let it slide to next year unprotected?

Rangers current core: Panarin (UFA signing), Zibinajad (trade), JT Miller (trade) Fox (trade and damn fortunate) . The young guys they drafted with those top ten picks were supposed develop and push these older guys down the lineup. Didn’t happen.

No worries, The rangers have that Skinny Perreault Kid to save them now. Laf, Kakko, Chytil, Miller, Kravtsov, Schneider, Miller, and all these kids were being pumped up to be an abundance of riches and Cuylle turns out to the best. (heck of a player Cuylle is, wonder is someone makes an offer on him)

Imagine what the odds were for both Vancouver and the rags to miss the playoffs. Whoever put money on this is laughing right now. Absolutely brutal what these two teams did this year. They are both done with a handful of games still remaining.

Pretty sure the only way they can make the playoffs is to win out their last 5, and everyone in front of them to lose out their last 4-5.

So basically impossible.

This is probably the biggest surprise of the season for me. I mean, knowing what we know now in terms of some of the players performance, and their current roster, it’s not a surprise they’re not making a run after the trade deadline.

But how it got to this in the first place I didn’t see coming. I think I had them as top 3 regular season team this year and didn’t think twice about it. I even thought with a healthy Chytil, Kakko bounce back and Smith over old man Wheeler, that they could be a better team this year.

17 regulation losses in November-December was wild. Just to put that in perspective, they had 23 regulation losses all of last season.
