Its the way we are constructed.

Forwards - we definitely are one of the oldest if not the oldest. We are projected to only have 3 guys under 30 and have no forwards between 25-29. Though othmann and cuylle possibly coming up sometime this year could help the age. But still its a weird construction of very young and old with no in between.

Defense - we are probably one of the youngest with 4 guys , possibly 5, 25 or younger. I believe our entire dcorps is under 30. Trouba is the oldest at 29 i think.

Goalies - shesty is still young. Quick is old.

No!
Assuming wheeler is on our 3rd line and not getting 20 minutes a game we have 1 player over 32 in our top 9.
We have an older bottom 6, but wheeler and Gustafson are the oldest players on the team.
By minute we are an incredibly young team.
Laf Chytil Kakko in our top 6 makes us very young.

I would have said Frankie Goes to Hollywood but Toad works.

edit: and Toad is legit at that! Not worthy. lol

It's absolutely bonkers that I said Toad, and he responded "Yup, at City Winery." I didn't even know why Toad popped to mind. Didn't even know they're still together playing and touring.

We do not have an “older team”
By minutes we are one of the youngest teams in the league last year.

I didn't say we had an old team. I said we were older or at least in terms of what are likely roster will be this compared to the last few years.

But 30 or 30+ forwards:

Zibanejad, Panarin, Kreider, Trocheck, Wheeler, Goodrow, Vesey, Bonino, Pitlick--Belzile if he makes the team.

Gustafsson on D and Quick in goal.

Pretty much every free agent we've brought in this year is an older player.

Yeah we have a lot of 30-31 year olds.
We also are likely not asking any free agent we brought in to be in our top6/top4/starting goalie.
And the more Chytil Laf and kakko get ice time we actually get younger than the previous few years not older.

I'd be curious how a weighted average of age versus minute or something like that would look across the league. Something that properly showed a teams age but also who was playing the majority of their minutes based on that age.

As @IDvsEGO mentions, we have a pretty veteran 4th line. It makes sense this year because they are all on lower cap hit deals.

the old is all in bonino, quick, wheeler. get rid of them and let garand, othmann, and Zegras take over and we're a top 10 young team again.
yeah but our core forwards of Zib-Panarin-Kreider are all over 30.

They are still in their primes but not for much longer.

Last year weighted average we were the 5th youngest team.
I have to find the tweet, but the only other team that young to make the playoffs was the devils.

Panarin already day to day? Alrighty then.

Mika was hurt, Chytil day to day, Oth was briefly hurt. This will be our karma this season for doing Jim Ramsey wrong.
