Why are these teams so mad at each other?

I think we just have some players that remember the playoff jobbery and the points matter. McDavid and Drai pretty much always show up against this team. Then the Ducks replaced their skilled players with goons and plugs, one of the reasons they can't build any momentum toward a playoff spot. If they don't have the balance of the roster playing above their capabilities they just tank. I never liked Getzlaf, but he certainly was a specimen. It seems they want to find that player again, but 99/100 times you just end up with the plugs like Johnston.

We have some goonery too so we don't back down, combined with us need to win and them resenting still sucking ass every year, seems to result in fireworks.

You know Nurse is feeling good when he's playing physical, haven't seen much of that in the last few years.

For sure, I think part of is he couldn't waste as much energy trying to do that stuff. Now that he's not playing SO much, he can assert himself more.
