Re: @Old Navy Goat - I know who he is in real life (from his overt posts on these boards and from PMs), though we have never met in person. I suspect a few others on these boards know who he is as well. We're similar age, within a couple years, and likely have mutual acquaintances from that era growing up in WNY/BUF. I pulled up his fb account (had never ever checked it in the past) and there is no recent activity (latest was October '24 I think), but the smile is there and the ONG lifestyle is on display. We know from interpreting prior posts over the years that he has underlying injuries and health issues stemming from his military service which will eventually alter/limit his lifestyle as he ages. Whether those are manifesting or not in this current timeframe, I can't speculate. Regardless, I wouldn't worry. If there's one individual on these boards who can navigate life anywhere on the globe, it his him. If he's having health issues / declining / on radio silence, he knew what would happen eventually. Just my 2 cents.
Yeah, some of us know who he is IRL and shared PMs with him. I'm speculating that he may not be with us any longer due to the reasons you've mentioned. Just a gut feeling...

The speculation is a "friend" has already been picked out to replace me, despite there not even being a posting yet. Hell of a shady thing to do with taxpayers dollars in your last 6 months before retirement.

Sounds like almostevery IT hire I have ever heard of. It’s always some friend or some family. Member and shit is settled before posting is ever made.

The summer Jerry died, my upstairs neighbors' apartment became a flop for deadheads who had been following the band. Every night at around 11 p.m. someone would come in and head upstairs. At that point, the psychodelic music would start, loud enough to wake people downstairs, and it would last until three or four in the morning.

After about three weeks of this, there was a night when the folks there left. It seemed like it took 20 minutes for everyone to come down the stairs and vacate the premises. There were so many people stomping down the stairs, it cracked the old plaster ceiling beneath the landing. We counted 32 people leaving and we'd only ever seen or heard one person coming in at a time with their drugs.

Just got home from finishing NZ Great Walk number 3 (out of 10). Up and over the remains of a volcano, round another one and then back beside a third one to finish the hike.

For the Lord of the Rings fans out there. The conical ones below are Mount Doom.

This is going up and over a volcano that blew itself apart a long time ago.

And I always stash a beer or two in the pack. So well-earned and gets looks of jealousy from others.
