Jessica Campbell of the Kraken became the first woman in NHL history to work a regular-season game as an assistant, associate or head coach.

Sam Montembeault (48 saves) established an NHL mark for most saves in a season-opening shutout (since shots were first tracked in 1955-56). Only two other goaltenders have posted 40-plus saves in that scenario: Filip Gustavsson (41 w/ MIN on Oct. 12, 2023 vs. FLA) and Marc-Andre Fleury (40 w/ PIT on Oct. 5, 2006 vs. PHI).

Kyle Connor scored Winnipeg’s fifth goal and became the first player in NHL history to score in seven straight season-opening contests.

Czech forward Ivan Ivan is the first player in NHL history with the same name and surname.

The 2024-25 campaign became the first in NHL history to feature multiple players post a natural hat trick in their team’s season-opening game (Nikita Kucherov & Anze Kopitar).

Malkin’s 28 overtime assists also passed Patrick Kane for sole possession of first place in League history.

Connor Ingram (4-0-1 in 5 GP) became the first goaltender in NHL history with a season-opening five-game point streak with a team contesting its inaugural campaign.

Czech forward Ivan Ivan is the first player in NHL history with the same name and surname who scored a goal.

Frederik Andersen improved to 298-128-52 in his 499th career game. Andersen’s 298 wins are already the most in NHL history through a goaltender’s first 500 career games, despite sitting one game shy of the mark. Of note, Andrei Vasilevskiy has a chance to pass him (297-146-30 in 484 GP).

Toronto earned its 15th win on Halloween – the most in NHL history.

Sam Reinhart (5-2—7 in 3 GP) became the only player in NHL history to record two multi-goal performances in games outside North America. He also tied Finnish-born forward Patrik Laine (5-1—6 in 4 GP) for the most goals in games played outside North America.

Andrei Vasilevskiy (490 GP) became the fastest goaltender in NHL history to record 300 wins, besting the pace set by Jacques Plante (521 GP).

Alex Ovechkin (39 years, 62 days) is the oldest player in NHL history to be the League’s first skater to 15 goals in a season. Prior to Ovechkin, the oldest player was Frank Mahovlich (33, 304 on Nov. 10, 1971).

Alex Ovechkin (39 years, 62 days) became the oldest player in NHL history to score in at least five consecutive regulation periods. A 38-year-old Teemu Selanne scored in six consecutive regulation periods from Oct. 27-31, 2008.

Kevin Lankinen is the first goalie in NHL history to start a season 10-0-0 on the road.

Evgeni Malkin (1-1—2) collected an assist on Bryan Rust’s overtime goal and boosted his career totals in overtime to 13-29—42. He 29 assists in that scenario broke a tie with Patrick Kane for the most in NHL history.

Philadelphia scored three game-tying goals in the third period of a contest for the second time this calendar year (also March 26, 2024). The Flyers became the first team in NHL history to accomplish the feat multiple times in the same calendar year.

Connor Hellebuyck became the first goaltender in NHL history to record three winning streaks of six-plus games in a season before New Year’s Day.

Alex Ovechkin scored his 13th career overtime goal on the road to surpass Jaromir Jagr and John Tavares for the most in NHL history.

Ovechkin surpased Jaromir Jagr record in most goalies, he has scored at least one goal (179).

Alex Nedeljkovic became the first goaltender in NHL history to score a goal and record an assist in a game.

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin became the first duo in NHL history to have 400 wins in games where they both recorded a point.

Brayden Schenn is skating in his 1,000th career game and joined brother, Luke, in reaching the milestone in 2024-25. They became the first set of brothers to each skate in their 1,000th career game in the same season.

Ilya Sorokin was credited with the Islanders’ final goal of the day – the third goaltender to be credited one in 2024-25 following Minnesota’s Filip Gustavsson (Oct. 15) and Pittsburgh’s Alex Nedeljkovic (Jan. 17) who both did so by shooting the puck into the net. This was already the first season in NHL history to feature multiple goalie goals – let alone three.

James van Riemsdyk, who recorded two goals against the Red Wings on Thursday, is set to appear in his NHL-record eighth career outdoor game as well as his third versus Detroit.

Erik Gustafsson became the first player in NHL history to appear in an outdoor game with five different franchises. Gustafsson also skated with NY Rangers in the 2024 Stadium Series at MetLife Stadium, Washington in the 2023 Stadium Series at Carter-Finley Stadium, Philadelphia in the 2021 NHL Outdoor at Lake Tahoe finale and Chicago in the 2019 Winter Classic at Notre Dame Stadium.

Sidney Crosby has recorded a multi-goal game against 31 different franchises, which is the most among all players in NHL history. The only teams he has yet to accomplish the feat against are Utah and Pittsburgh. The only player to do so against 30 different franchises is Alex Ovechkin (missing COL, SEA and WSH).

"Connor McDavid recorded his first three-point game against Utah and has now done so against 32 different franchises which is the most in NHL history."

Maybe I'm over thinking this but isn't that record kind of crazy? He certainly isn't old and has played for a western team his entire career, so scoring 3 points against every team seems remarkable.

It should be noted that Czech forward Ivan Ivan is the first player in NHL history with the same name and surname who scored a goal.
It's on the original list as well. Kind of funny wen you see Ivan Ivan is the only player in NHL history to have the same first and last name, but only the only player to score a goal and have the same first and last name....sort of like double counting, but not really....though you can't score the goal without playing in a game.

I read the Malkin record of 28 OT assists and decided to look it up.....thought it was strange, Ovechkin has 27 goals and Crosby has 24 goals.....you'd think someone has more than 28 assists. I eventually found the assists....funny that he passed Kane to get 28 assists and then passed Kane to get 29 assists. Looks like Malkin still leads with 31, Karlsson has 29 and Kane and McDavid tied with 28, so Malkin probably should have been on a couple more times....passing Karlsson to get 30 and then extending record to 31?

Lots of pretty obscure records here, but interesting and I have to ask the question....where do you find these records?

The goal one for Ivan Ivan is kind of silly since he's the first player with the same first and last name to do ANYTHING in the NHL lol.

Also I maintain it's dumb to consider Utah as anything other than a continuation of the Jets-Coyotes franchise given that they kept all their assets (players, picks).

Lane Hutson became the first player in NHL history to average 100 points in a game

Lane Hutson become the first player to perform an open heart surgery during an NHL game (he gave one to PLD and he's been awesome since)

Lane Hutson broke Mike Milbury's record of fans beaten in a game when he jumped into the stands and beat up every mean spirited Philly fan (all of them)

Lane Hutson broke so many records he started requesting players from other sports to start watching him because their records are next

Also a tie, but impressive nonetheless:

Daniel Sprong has scored in his first game for four different teams, a feat only accomplished by two other players. (He broke the streak when he failed to score in his debut for New Jersey)

I know that Ty Emberson led the league in "hits received" this year and if you told me it was the most in a season I would believe you. I've never seen a guy get hit so much.
