I'm talking about a player with decent history statistically that had a poor or average season the year(s) before then bounces back with a solid season.

Not a comeback from injury or personal issues etc..

Maybe Lemieux isn't the best choice but I can't think of another.

Soooooo, most improved vet? Just call it the Thomas Award and if anyone was gonna have the "lots of **** happened to me award" they'll change the Masterton to Koivu

If there's an award for goals, I'm still wondering why there isn't one for most assists. Name it after Gretzky because you know... most assists in NHL history.

No, no, a team award. It should be just like the Stanley Cup, except bigger to reflect the importance of Corsi. ;)

Well, nothing can really beat the Stanley Cup. Having another award that equates with the Cup only seems to reduce the excitement and defeat the purpose of the Cup.

Yes, award for the player with the highest Corsi rating, and also Fenwick. Or just Fenwick.

They already do give an award to the player with the best possession stats.

Selke trophy.

The nominees are generally the FF% leaders in the NHL, with deployment and QoC also considered.

Well right now the Selke is given to centers who play well defensively but also produce more than 60 points a year. It's become a ridiculous award, they completely and unofficially changed its definition...

Glasgow, Scotland.
The Kesler/Subban - dive of the year
The Nieuwendyk/Shero/Waddell - GM that makes out like a bandit on deadline day or GM that looks like a moron on deadline day
The Dustin Brown 'I Can Count To Potato' - player who turns into meme/GIF of the year material
The Roy - superstition of the year
The James Neal Sunday Best - suit of the year

While that's true, whether the voters were taking the stats into account or not, the Selke nominees are almost always dominant possession players.

An elite 200 ft game requires elite possession, as you need the puck to score, and keeping the puck away from the other guys is a great way to suppress shots and goals against.

How about a Martin Brodeur award for the most shutouts in a season?

Please lets never have an award for advance stats. Lets keep statistical awards to the real stats.
