It has nothing to do with Daws making simple saves, the team in front looks like dogshit and getting utterly caved in. He got them to the first 0-0 and they still looked like shit after a possible reset.

But it really looks like everybody is checked out. You gotta work harder when you are missing pieces!

There is no amount of work or running around that makes the defensive zone or breakout work.

Vancouver has a good pre-scout. They’re keeping by 4 or 5 guys in the zone even after the Devils recover the puck so the. Breakout is very hard.

Vancouver also rims the puck to the weak side defender whenever there is trouble which keeps possession and forces the devils to skate themselves tired.

They have almost 30 shots already. Daws has probably allowed at most his expected goals already, if not fewer than his expected goals against.

Daws has seen 26 shots in 25 minutes and the team has given their worst effort since drafting Nico; its almost a sad copout to insinuate this is on Daws

Devils end up in a lot of those battles taking a bad angle because they start so many from the center of the ice but Vancouver starts from along the boards and closer to the puck.

Devils probably aren’t a great board battle team so a scheme designed around board battles is probably not a good idea.
