Good morning. I remember when some posters proclaimed McLeod would NEVER become a top 9 player.

Can you please apologize?
I mean he had never shown anything suggesting he was ever gonna be better than a mediocre 4th liner. The points weren’t there and the underlyings were pretty bad. He’s had a weird development curve, but every once in a while people do put it together.

I’m happy to mea culpa if he actually puts up something like 15-20 goals and 40 points, especially since the D results are Actually Good for the first time in his career

Hi my Devils friends,

I haven’t been Posting much so far this Season due to work commitments,

…. but stopping by reminded me how much I enjoy your sense of humour and creativity here.

It‘s a nice relationship between HF Canucks & HF Devils with our collective fandom of the amazing Hughes Bros as a common bond.

Hope Jack recovers quickly and returns soon.

Take care and may 2024 be a great year for you and your families.

It might sound crazy but replacing Nico might be harder than replacing Jack despite him being a 100 pointt player. Jack scores a lot of points and is amazing but it feels like when we are missing Nico any little gameplan that Ruff has falters. Nico is what keeps the engine running even if he doesnt score nearly as much.

I see this thrown around a lot and just don't agree. Sure replacing Jack right now is pretty easy because he's been god awful for a month now and contributes nothing outside the PP. When Jack doesn's suck though he draws so much attention and makes it easier for other players to score because of it. I think it's likely easier to delegate Nico's defensive responsibilities than it is for other guys to step up and replace Jack's offense while now having to face the matchups he does.

I think he’s gotten enough reps that he has a good understanding of what to do and when and where to do it. That light goes on at different times for different people. That level of understanding has allowed him to adjust speed and slow the game down at times.

Yeah he doesn’t have a great hockey brain, sometimes guys like that gotta just grind it out in the NHL for it to click

If this is his new normal, nobody is happier than me, we need the center depth

Also Jack has clearly been off for a little while, but how f***ing nice is it to have a guy whose “off” is merely a point per game lmao

It's nice to finally have a PP merchant. At 5v5 he has just 3 pts over the past 14 games since the Vancouver game and 2 of those were secondary assists. 0.84 P/60 and 0.28 primary pts/60 babyyyyyy. He needs a break bad. Kind of impressive we managed to get Jack and Timo both playing some of the absolute worst hockey of their careers and it overlapping

Apparently its very unlikely he plays today and its not "good" news. Someone who I know in the org who is in no way connected with the team directly (works for the org) told me this.

He has never told me news before so no Idea how credible this is

Well it being possible even if it’s just a remote chance he plays is better than I expected. I figured there’s no chance

3:30pm and I’m chilling on my couch.. got booze and food… where’s an afternoon game when you need one ?

If you turn on NLHN you can catch the last 9 minutes of the CAL/Philthy game. Philthy is a very exciting watch. Torts just refuses to go away.

There's also a game between FLA and COL at 4:00 PM. That should hold you over before the the Nucks throttle the Jackless NJD tonight.

Yep I’m watching the Flames game, mostly to check out the goalie and defenseman as trade targets 😎

This should serve as a good example to remember - these are people like me and you after all and, although the human mind obsesses over patterns, life isnt so clean like that. As you said I will continue to assume most players in that scenario wont one day turn it on; but I also try to never speak in absolutes for that exact reason.

The next step in that process is also not to assume regression is assured and not extrapolate his quality of play over an entire season for the sake of a final answer; he very well could bounce between third and fourth line play over the remainder of his career and he would still deserve the credit hes earned himself
