Rosters need to be settled by 5 PM, so we should know, soon enough, what Lou has in mind.
What's the penalty if a team doesn't cut down to 23 in time?

Don't worry, I think we'll be buying him out next year. That I'm pretty confident of. Just one more year of the Kremlin Kone being given ice time because he's an entitled veteran.
Can't they throw Tedenby or Loktionov on IR? I know they're practicing, but can't they say they're still ''Sore''?
Well... *something* has to be up. Even if we IR one of the forwards and assign Larsson, that only buys a couple of days. At least one, maybe two if continuing IR is not plausible, will need to be moved or exposed to waivers in the very near future.
Tedenby is practicing, but he hasn't played a game since Game 1 of the preseason. Jagr is in the same boat. So both can be retroactively put on IR I think to buy some time.
well I think we all know where this is going: "When time is on your side...."
Lou likes waiving guys after the deadline for rosters but before the season opens.. because most teams will have full rosters and won't be able to make any claims. It gives it a surer shot that the players pass through fine.
Yeah, but if it's a guy we're afraid would be claimed, that'll effectively stick him with the A-Devils for the season, right? Short of moving them in a deal, of course. At the very least, it buys far more time for a guy that wouldn't fit in the current plans.
I know we carefully timed Butler last year for that reason.
There isn't waiver on recalls this year I thought?

Not so sure about the retroactive part. Technically, IR only opened today for the first time so not sure if we can place someone retroactively on IR before it opened.
Hence why Pronger was only put on LTIR today (or will at some point today).. during training camp, he was on 'active' roster.
I think that's because teams are allowed to be over the cap in the preseason. I read yesterday Tedenby can be retro'd back to September 17th.
Waivers are only on the way down, not the way up. Re-entry waivers are no more under this CBA.
And at 4:59 PM Lou announces a block buster trade for player X randomly out of nowhere. 3 players and a pick for 1 superstar
(One can dream)
Likely forever.
PA realized that it only hurts their players sent down in the minors because the fear at losing a player at one half of their cap hit (while keeping the other half themselves) represented a major obstacle that would force teams to just let a player wallow away in the AHL until the end of the season.
well i meant starting this year since it wasn't true in the previous CBA
I don't know why anyone is excited. Lou will make a move today that provides the least talk, excitement, and news. The most boring decision. Or some kind of trick so we can just wait longer.
