We can always sign a forward, legit defenseman are way harder to come by, I like the pick. Besides Wright ended up in Seattle so who cares.

18 year old players improve on their weaknesses and his defense isn’t that bad. He’s a complete d-man.
We'll see.

I just think that while he's "developing", Shane's going to be kicking ass and taking names in Seattle.

Seeing him be successful would always make me think about how he could've helped US offensively RIGHT OFF THE BAT.

And btw, while Seattle is not some Hockey Hotbed, it's still not Arizona.

He dodged a major bullet there when Cooley was selected.

They wanted Slaf at 2 and MTL took their bluff, I like Nemec but I would’ve traded down for him

I don't think anyone was trading up to 2

Wait now we’re saying Luke was a bad pick!? Lmfao yikes

No. He's saying Luke's D is bad (it is) and Nemec's is worse. I do think he wasn't the biggest Luke fan though and would've went with someone else

As is common for young, offensive-minded defensemen, Nemec's defensive game is his largest weakness. He often plays very large gaps when defending the rush, which gives the opposing forwards too much time and space to get around him and make plays toward the net.

In the defensive zone, he can appear tentative, which is in contrast to how he plays on the offensive side of the puck. His high hockey IQ means he understands how to follow the play, but he gets lost at times and can get caught puck-watching.

THIS is who Fitz drafted, folks.

A d-man whose weakness is PLAYING F'N DEFENSE!

Seriously.

I mean are you kidding me here???

At #2.

What in the actual F***, FITZ?

We gave up Shane Wright for this guy?

I hope he pans out like some of you claim 'cause if he doesn't, we will forever regret this choice for a long-ass time.

Since when do we care about having D-men that can play D? It’s all about analytics and puck moving!

That’s just not true. He’s a more than capable defensensively.

With Slafkovsky off the board, happy with either Nemec or Jiricek. Will look deeper but I think either of those guys was the right pick.

That scouting report is all well and good. Now list his weaknesses which include DEFENSE.

I've said it before that my preference is Stay-At-Home Defensive-Defenseman kind of like Siegs.

Instead what we did was find a replacement for either Sevs or PK (I assume).
Dude you have no idea what you're talking about, all you're doing is repeating one guys opinion.

Luke Hughes's defensive play is worse than Nemec's, yet for some reason you don't seem to want to talk about that at all.

Have a Snickers, take some Xanax, get a good nights sleep and try again tomorrow.

Find it absolutely impossible to get even remotely excited about draft picks. I basically say the same thing every year, I hope the guy that I've barely seen play turns out to be good.

I am absolutely sick of the draft being the only thing our pathetic franchise looks forward to every year though. Hopefully we don't suck again this season.
tbh, if THIS is what I have to now look forward to (in Fitz F***ing up), then yeah....I want the Devils to make the playoffs so I don't have to sit through another BS draft decision again.

For reference, here's what our very own @StevenToddIves had to say about his defensive game:

"This brings us to the most viable aspect of Nemec's future success. He's potentially the player who you put out to protect a late lead or come back from a late deficit, a player who will be on the first unit for both your PP and PK. He's just so steady defensively. He's not what I'd call a player who relies on physicality, but he's willing to play physically and is very strong, especially considering he's one of the youngest defensemen in the Slovakian men's league. He's very adept at using shoulder checks and box outs to separate opposing puck carriers from the puck, and then he's very quick to transition those pucks. Positionally, I'd say he's not quite perfect but he's very good and, as I've mentioned, Nemec displays very good on-ice awareness. Quite simply, he's a very good defender -- I'd go so far to say this aspect of his game is further along than his offense right now, and has the potential to one day be pretty elite."

18 year old d-men need work defending? Really?

I'm fine with the pick. I would love to hear some scouts talk about doubting Wright. Pretty interesting to see what happens over the next 4-5 years.
