Nieds would have been the greatest 3 on 3 player ever

Well, close to it.

He was already one of the best 4 on 4 players ever. He scored a lot of 4 on 4 OT winners. I remember when overtime switched from just 5 on 5 to 4 on 4 and he really took over out there.

I think he'd at least be the greatest 3 on 3 defenseman ever.
Yeah, I was thinking they would have won a lot of those tie games in a shootout but you're right, they would have had a lot more OT wins too.

Imagine this current team with prime Niedermayer.

Plus I think the ‘01 team had ITS 13-game heater very late in the season too

Yep, the thirteen game winning streak came in the last quarter of the season, they finished 19-2 going into the playoffs
I actually haven't lived in the Devils TV market since the mid 90s, so back then I was stuck reading the box scores and seeing the occasional national broadcast until playoff time.

Yeah me too, I've said it before that his mechanics are the best on this team by a mile. Vanecek and Blackwood will make insane miraculous stops but give up the easy one where you scratch your head and say wtf. At this point, just play goalie by ear. There's been tons of teams who've gone on runs with shittier goalies than Vanecek. I rather have the tremendous skaters up front than an amazing goalie mask everything up for us since the former is way more sustainable for a longer period of time.
Vitek is certainly not the worst playoff team goalie, that's for sure.

I mean, Samsonov has played well this year, but he's just a 4-5 game chiller away from having his numbers torpedoed closer to average like Vitek just did. And his last couple years haven't been good. Maybe he just needed a change of scenery?

Murray started out hot and the market correction is in. He's moving closer to where he's been the last 4 years. Not as bad as his worst, but kind of where he was last year with Ottawa.

Andersen is not having a good year and he gets injured all the f***in time. We all must remember when Raanta shit his pants against the Rangers in the playoffs last year. And I don't even know if Kochetkov has played too many more NHL games than Schmid has.

Shesterkin has played about the same as Vitek this year, which may be hard to believe.

Vasilevskiy has been torpedoed the last few games too, but he was having a really good season before that, because he's Vasilevskiy, so he's still up around .915% on the season.

I'm not even gonna touch the Western Conference, which has suspect goalies left and right on the playoff teams out there.

I know our team hasn't operated like this, but just use the three goalies the rest of the year, assuming Blackwood is healthy soon.

We can use that as a weapon, especially if Blackwood can give a couple more quality starts.

It's kind of fun to imagine the early 00's Devils at 3 on 3. I think Marty would have done really well in those, just like he did in shootouts until he got real old. As long as someone didn't wrist one through him like Nico did tonight. He was prone to letting shots like that coming down the wing in.

You'd also have to think Marty would have racked up a few more points in his career sending passes up the ice for breakaways.

I don't think I could have moved out of market back then, but I remember satellite being a thing around 1996 or so and having center ice back then. I didn't have it then, but I would have if I moved out of market, like I do now.

Who are you and what have you done with Bleedred?
I don't really expect too much out of Blackwood and I think it's more important to see what we have in Schmid right now, but I don't think it's the worst thing in the world to use all 3 goalies down the stretch, assuming Blackwood can even play at all, which it sounds like he can.

It could keep Vitek fresh and Schmid somewhat fresh.

I still think of Vitek and Schmid as our two guys. Not sure management feels that way right now though. At least not for the rest of this year.

I want to buy a Timo pro jersey but if Severson goes , maybe Timo goes back to #28 . I might have to wait but not sure if I can fight the temptation to order one right now.
Don't teams generally switch numbers for free in situations like that? I usually stick to shirseys and $12 pullovers from Fanatics glitches so I don't know what the process is but I feel like like I've heard of that before.

I was about to turn 7 so I didn't have much say in the matter. 😂 But I'll be in attendance in Chicago on April 1st in my $12 Fanatics pullover.

Ohhhhhh yeahhhhhh

He could have sent pucks up the ice from the corners. It would have been some of the coolest stuff we could have seen back then.

He was also the type of goalie made for 3 on 3. I'm sure he would have gotten scored on sometimes, but a goalie like him would have done really well in 3 on 3, if I had to guess. I knew he would KILL it in the shootout and he did. I'm sure his last 2 years which were really bad in the shootout skew his career numbers in them, but he was amazing in the shootout the first 7 years of it.

The only thing about 3 on 3 with those teams, especially as we got into the 00's was that those were big, kind of aging and slower teams. Obviously you're not gonna put Ken Daneyko or Tommy Albelin or Randy McKay on the ice at 3 on 3 in 2002 or 2003 (McKay was gone by 2003) and even Arnott wasn't a really fast guy, nor was younger Sykora. You wouldn't wanna use guys like Claude Lemieux or Joe Nieuwendyk at 3 on 3 either. Not by those years. Nieuwendyk in the 90's would have been good at 3 on 3.

The Elias/Niedermayer combo as 2 of your 3 would have killed it and I think Mogilny would have been good at it. Gomez as well. He was still really young and he could really skate.

John Madden was really fast back then. He could have scored a decent amount of 3 on 3 goals.

Rafalski is another guy that would have excelled at 3 on 3.

Stevens? In the 90's probably. By the 2000's? He wasn't very fast anymore and that just wasn't his game anyway. Rafalski and Niedermayer would have been the defensemen that got the most reps in 3 on 3 back then.

Nice!

I'll be in attendance for the two Florida games two weekends from now!

And was in attendance for the game in Sunrise in December, as well as the Sharks game in Tampa last month, that Timo literally won all by himself.

I may wanna wear a T-shirt for that one. It was 80-something degrees on game day in December and I was sweating in my jersey.

Boston lost there in regulation this season.

Relax.

Arizona is 14-11-3 at home, .554 win %
(vs 7-21-7 away, .300 win %)
12 teams have a worse home win % than ARI.*
(Zero teams have a worse away win % than ARI.)

These are the games the Coyotes got points in at home:

These are the away games they got points in:

They managed to beat the Islanders and Leafs twice, which is fun.

There are players who are struggling, and you can be upset stuff you can wanted cleaned up, but getting bummed because this game went to OT is a bit silly.

Was nice to see Timo score on his debut. It was a good one but we gotta give him time to adjust to playing with this team. I am sure they play a different style of hockey than what he was playing over in San Jose. I hope he meshes and puts up big numbers for us. I have a feeling he will be able to play just fine on Jack or Nico's wing.

I've not done a really good job in buying merchandise for current players. I need to at least get a couple of T-shirt jerseys like Hischier and Hughes at the very least. Rather than wearing these Brodeur or Elias jerseys to games in 2023. I'm not saying I wouldn't wear those jerseys anymore, but I'd like something a little more current if I'm only gonna go to 2-3 games a year.

I had a Hall T-shirt (JACKED by the ex-girlfriend, who didn't give a shit about hockey and couldn't even tell you who he was but IDGAF cause he's gone and he was gone before that) and Schneider one. As you could see, those didn't age well, as Cory fell off a cliff a year or two later and Hall was gone a year or two later. Although I think I got that the first year he played here. I got a white Kovalchuk jersey about 1.5 years before his departure.

I had a Zajac T-shirt somewhere, but can't find it anymore. I also have a really old Elias T-shirt, but that's kind of big on me and all stretched and faded. Wore it too many times cutting grass in the Florida sun and it's black. Now it's more like a chocolate color.

Seems like a lot of teams are spending time poolside or heading out for nights on the town rather than worrying about playing hockey.

This is a pretty good take. I was thinking that walls are being hit in max # of games played in a season for VV and Schmid.

Wasn't Boston the first win the Coyotes had in that building? I think it was in their second or third game in the building, and I remember them winning it on a goal in the last minute of regulation.

I don't know if Schmid has had that wall yet, but then again, he has played a decent number of AHL games this year too.

Vitek looks like he may be hitting it, but it could just be a slump. He had one of these in December too.

I don't know about that

Even some of the worst teams in the league have a winning record at home, if not by just a few games above 500. So I'm not surprised Arizona has a winning record at home.

That's been said about Vegas more than Arizona.

That teams come in there and party the night before and are hungover the next night.

You know, all goalies will look bad when they hit a rough patch of luck. We're seeing some weird caroms, deflections and then just a few breakdowns. I'm sure these guys would rather have 10 shots of normal variety every period than two goofy shots and a breakaway. Concentration is definitely an issue.

Agreed, for sure. I don't really care if the goalie is our so called "weakness" because it's such a voodoo position and also if you're bragging about your goalie being that much of a difference maker, like how Rangers fans do with us in every main board thread, maybe your skaters are actually shit because no one in the right mind who's watched this sport would argue that having the better goalie makes you the better team with how the sport is played. I'm ok with Vitek but I think management knows he's probably the "weakest" starter or player on this roster compared to the league's elite or very good players. The Devils virtually have everything else on the roster covered for the next decade.
