Reid Boucher isn't a big but speedy and gritty player from Western Canada and therefore I see no fit in the Dallas Stars system. /s

Would Stars fans go for something around MacKenzie Blackwood for Valarie Nichushkin as a base? Devils add a 2nd and a small + after that?

No jersey isn't gonna trade one of the best Goalie prospects in the game for a guy who wants out of Dallas and let alone add stuff to the deal

I wouldn't do it as a Devils fan. At this point, the only thing Nichushkin has going for him is the top 10 hype. He hasn't gotten any better since he's gotten into the league, in fact he's declined.

Boucher, on the other hand, looked like he finally figured it out last year. I expect big things from him this year. Adding the second round pick really makes this deal a no for me.

Eh, shallow analysis of Nuke. I don't disagree on some levels, but the team he is on matters. How he's being utilized matters. He's still only 21 years old!

Here is a decent analysis from a Stars blog: http://www.defendingbigd.com/2016/6...ars-2015-2016-player-grades-valeri-nichushkin

Obviously unrealistic, but I do it with little to no hesitation. Maybe I try to get the 2nd down to a 3rd, but its good value today for us. For Dallas, less so, but unless he breaks out for them, offers for him are not going to get better.

Boucher is likely going to be a serviceable player, but Nichushkin has a much higher ceiling. I think its clear he needs a change of scenery. You can find a Boucher easily, a 6'3 burner, less so. Nuke could thrive in the right system.

Really? I wouldn't.

Boucher produced at a better clip last year.

On a weaker team.

In half the games. :help:

Yeah Nichushkin will be entering his 3rd full year and I think he will really start to produce, especially if gets some PP time. If he plays like he did in his rookie year and near the end of last year he should have a real solid year

Let's assume he finally get his head on straight and signs with Dallas before the season starts.

Do you start him in the top six, or bottom six?

I don't see him hitting .5ppg on the third or fourth line. He needs help.

No way in hell NJ would do this. Blackwood will be a STUD goalie in this league.

Just like Wedgewood was going to take over for Brodeur two years ago? and Kinkaid was going to make Schneider expendable? You can point around the league to dozens of goalies that are backups, mediocre starters, or even complete busts that at some point in their careers were called future studs. Goalies are really, REALLY hard to project, and someone with all the skill in the world can flame out for seemingly no reason.

Not saying I'd happily trade him away for Nichushkin, but Blackwood hasn't played a single professional game, don't count him as a delicious Chick-fil-a sandwich when he isn't even breaded yet.

Not exactly the place for this, but why don't you think he couldn't hit .5ppg with the guys we have on the 3rd or 4th line? To save Troy the trouble, lets assume he has the ability to get to 40 points despite the fact he has yet to be there. We've got the deepest forward group in the league, he'll have Ritchie/Hemsky/Faksa/Janmark/Hudler/Eakin to play with. And he'll be matched up against Panik/Desjardins/Hinostroza/Rassmussen/Mashinter when we play the Blackhawks. Grimaldi/Mitchell/Martinsen/Elson when we play Colorado. Schroeder/Dalpe/Chris Stewart, Bass/Sissions/Salomaki, Brodziak/Upshall/Paajarvi, Peluso/Thorburn/Copp etc.

Whoever we have on ice against these luminaries should be caving them in. If it's our 3rd line against theirs and our 4th against theirs, the Stars, Nichushkin included, should still be scoring at a good clip.

Devil fans still obsessed Nichushkin, since the Devils got penalized for Kovy and drafted Mattaeu 3oth. This guy just may go back to Russia, get over him. We need to sure up our defense.

Well, aside from Hudler, all those players were there last year too, and likely all saw time with Nichushkin as well. Didn't seem to bounce his numbers all that much. :dunno:

Maybe the team as a whole will gel offensively this year and Nuke will be one of the primary benefactors, more so than any other. He's certainly due, after the promise of his rookie year riding the coattailes of Seguin and Benn.

Or, maybe he'll be a detriment to whichever line he ends up playing, and winds up a healthy scratch some nights.

It's all moot anyways if he decides he wants to stay in Russia.

Nuke was in the draft when we got Schneids (2013), not the Matteau draft (2012).

He was sitting there at #9 at The Rock in '13 when our turn came up to pick that year. He ended up going at #10. I think we did better so no reason for obsession. He would be nice but looking back Lou did good;)

No one has ever said those things about kincaid or wedgewood. And if the comment was made it was a one off. That was never a popular opinion among Devils if even an opinion at all. Rediculous. The truth is blackwood is the best goalie prospect we have had since brodeur. I'd still trade him for nichushkin but there no need for the bs.

Last year Fiddler, Scevior, and Eaves saw a lot of minutes against those players. This year Eaves might still be there, but by league-wide forward scoring, everybody else was a 3rd line player or better last year, while Hudler, Eakin, and Hemsky were at a top 6 level. I don't know how the lines will go, but Eakin or Janmark or playoffs Faksa is a big offensive improvement over Fiddler.
