Colorado trades: Maltsev

New Jersey trades: McLeod

Simple depth trade. Avs get a young player more suited to develop into a bottom 6 player and can win faceoffs, and the Devils get back the more talented player that already had a decent stint with NJ.

very doubtful the devils are on the same page. maltsev might be more skilled, but not necessarily the more talented player.

Wrong. McLeod has got more tools than Maltsev.

There’s a reason why he went Pick 12. Has he put it together? No. Will he ever put it together? Probably not. But he is a very valuable 4th liner that wins faceoffs, good defensively and kills penalties.

Maltsev looked good last night. Generated some high danger chances.

The penalty was a garbage call by that garbage officiating crew whom was hell bent on seeing the Panthers win. Both Panther games were brutally officiated with every questionable call going Florida’s way. Avs need to use the same bookie Panthers are you get these horse crap calls and non calls.

let’s see Maltsev get 10 more games. He was much more active than a Megna or Sherwood scrub.

Would of liked to see him play for the Devils a bit longer. We could use his size in the bottom 6. He's got some good hands too. We can't really afford to lose McLeod since he is one of our only good defensive forwards and is our best guy on faceoffs. I hope Maltsev becomes an NHL regular wherever he sticks.

I’m ok trading McLeod whose perfect role is a 4c on a championship team and NJ is far away but that doesn’t make any sense for NJ. Has to be an offer NJ can’t refuse similar to the Coleman trade.

Are you looking for the same return as Coleman (2 1sts), or simply just an overpayment?

Didn't realize that McLeod was that highly regarded with the Devils,, I guess there's no change of scenery trade to be made? i.e. something like Jost for McLeod.

I don't actually think that 2 1sts was an overpayment for what Coleman was (near elite player on a cheap AAV contract for two playoff runs)

McLeod is not that at all. I think he's a fine 4th liner, he's nothing like Coleman.

Just an "overpayment" an offer the Devils can't say no to. Devils have no interest in moving McLeod, but he seems to have topped out as a 4th line C FO specialist and those players have more value to contenders than whatever the Devils are right now.

Just curious, what would be a package look like that would intrigue the Devils?

I'd be intrigued by Jost. Otherwise just futures of appropriate value, I'm not sure exactly what that is but I believe it's less than a 1st round pick.

FWIW I think it's pretty unlikely that McLeod gets traded because the coaches have been feeding him more ice time than he deserves so the organization seems to like him.

So the GM and coach are both enamored with McLeod based on comments and usage (McLoed getting a ton of key FOs and he's been used to win a FO and go off the ice a few times IRC). He's signed for 975,000 x 2 with RFA rights afterward so let's say 3.5 more years of team control, and he plays an important position (C) for a coach/GM trying to build a proper winner at some point in the next 2 years.

It would have to be a roster player, that's clearly better than McLeod to help the team win games. Devils don't really have a 4C (Boqvist) that the FO is confident in, so it would be tough to find a non C trade, in particular on Colorado. I know you are probably thinking Compher who can play C, but that's a tough sell for me. Devils could use help on D but there's not really a player in Colorado that fits.

As i'm trying to make clear, the GM and coach love the 4th line and are in love with what McLeod brings, but the problem is it's a great 4th line for a team that needs to build a top 9.

Edit: Jost as Blackjack mentioned I don't know enough about other than he's been majorly disappointing and hasn't really carved out a role like Mcleod has.

Ya that makes sense, I would definitely be open to a Jost for McLeod swap, and while he has been disappointing, it's more that he's been a disappointment to his draft position. We could use an upgrade on Jost, no doubt, but he's playing the #3C role on a contender. He's not an ideal #3C on a contender - but that doesn't make him useless, he's still very solid defensively and is great positionally, we could just use an upgrade. I don't know if he'd be an enticing enough piece considering how much NJ loves McLeod, but I do think he'd look a lot better in a slower system than the Avs - similar to Graves.

FWIW, If you believed everything from Avs fans, you'd also think that Graves was nothing more than a #4/5 defenseman that was propped up by Makar.
