New Head Coach-who will it be?

Islanders fan coming in peace.

If ever there was a guy who was meant to stay an assistant coach it’s Lane Lambert. Don’t hire him.

A lot of names coming up make no sense to all of us. So lets see how it goes.
The only thing from his stint on the Island that I’ll give him is that it’s tough to be the guy who follows up Barry Trotz. Especially when Lou Lamoriello doubled down on the exact same roster that missed the playoffs under Trotz.

I’d be ok with Lambert if we ultimately don’t get Mitch Love . Lambert learned from one of the best In Barry Trotz and I think did a good job with what he was given in Long Island like the other poster said had to work with a similar roster .

Their 5 on 5 play improved dramatically after Trotz was let go , it also appears the Kraken want someone who can improve their possession numbers which took a major step back last season and they seem to believe Lambert can help accomplish this based on the report I just read in Pro Hockey Rumors .

Just please do not hire David Quinn

It just kinda dawned on me also that you haven’t heard a peep from Hakstol since getting let go. And why would you? He’s undoubtedly still getting paid something on that extension. But no TV gig, no international team stuff, nothing. A complete phantom.
I believe he’s living back in Grand Forks. I noticed him in the audience when UND announced Jackson as their new head coach. Jackson was a longtime assistant under Hak at UND. Earlier this season he was an assistant coach for Team Canada in the Spangler Cup.

Kevin Weeks is reporting that Marco Sturm and Mitch Love are among the favourites for our head coaching opening . Lambert isn’t a slam dunk as it may have seemed yesterday

I trust Kevin Weekes way more than Friedman. He usually waits until late in the game to start reporting and as such, tends to have a pretty solid track record.

Also, hi Kevin!

Well it looks like Marco Sturm is getting the Boston job , so per Weekes report , I wonder now if it will be either Woodcroft or Mitch Love

Per yesterdays piece from Dailyfaceoff, it was speculated that a contract with Mitch Love was close, but the team couldn't seal the deal.

So according to this report the team insisting on keeping Campbell as an assistant might be the reason Love won't sign?

Also, after reports said Marco Strum would get the Boston job that somehow didn't happen.
Maybe they just upped their offer for Love?

Not sure what to make of this.

Me either. Surely teams retain assistants sometimes?
I get that a new coach might want to bring their own person to run the PP or whatever, but that wasn't her strict responsibility anyway. Not sure why it's a deal breaker.

There's a lot not to like in that snippet.

Starting with "had their hearts set on Tocchet".

Just...

Why?!?

The guy has done exactly nothing as a HC in this league, and his closest comparable roster-wise (the Coyotes) he was an unmitigated shitshow ruining or running off young talented players like Strome, Ekman-Larsson, Garland and Hayton. What in the hell about any of that makes this FO look at him and think "aww man, that's our guy!" ?????

Secondly, I appreciate that Campbell is almost universally respected as THE "skating doctor" but forcing her as an assistant on a new HC is just bad business. That's typically not done, and a coach getting his first chance is going to want to bring in "veteran" (ie. fired former HCs) to be his assistants. If they're looking at a guy like Love (or formerly Sturm) they're doing them a disservice asking them to keep the similarly inexperienced Campbell in one of those spots.

Just a lot of "this FO doesnt really seem like it has any idea what it's doing" as far as running a hockey team. Very frustrating.

No idea about what is going on behind closed doors in the interviews but news like this leaking is not a good look for the organization. And it also puts Campbell in a very awkward spot.

If I’m getting my first shot at an NHL head coaching gig, if I can’t put my choices in as assistant coaches, I’m not signing. Period. It doesn’t matter who. If I fail, I need to fail in my own way.

its not uncommon for assistant coaches to remain with a new HC. In fact a couple of our ACs remained when we went from hakstol to blysma

Its purely speculation. Its hard to tell whats going on with seattle with the HC search since the team doesn't leak to the media.

100%

If they want to keep Campbell in a specialist role like the "goalie coach", instead as the "skating doctor" moving between the NHL/AHL (even possibly the ECHL) teams trying to help prospects improve their skating, then hell yes I'm here for that.

But foisting her on a new coach as an assistant, especially a first timer? That sucks, full stop.

I certainly wouldn’t be too enthusiastic with the PP results.

Well, the other thing is it hands the troglodyes easy ammunition for yet another drooling HURR DURR DEI HIRE rant. It legitimately does her a disservice if it's true. Her professional path has been and is difficult enough.

This is absolutely true. It’s a sticky situation, but at the end of the day, they knew the risks going in. If you don’t hire her, you don’t have to worry about this. So either you do what they are doing and hold your ground, or you let her go and deal with the fallout. I think holding on is the right thing to do for the person. The problem is that the job of the Seattle Kraken is to be a winning hockey team, and if she’s being kept around for the reason of appeasing DEIB or avoiding troglodyte uprisings, they are doing it for the wrong reasons. It’s a hockey team and they need to make hockey decisions, and sometimes those don’t feel good.

All of that said, perhaps there are underlying reasons for these issues, but I’ll say this, 1. If any head coach candidate is unwilling to work with somebody working for the club, especially this club, they can f*** off. As such, if this claim about Mitch Love is true (we should be assuming it’s not) then that’s a flawed character decision, but an understandable one that I would also consciously make. 2. I don’t want to be stuck with a lesser option just because of Jess Campbell has to stay. That is also a problem.

to;dr - Hockey decisions need to be about hockey.

"Had their hearts set on Tocchet"

Alright, blow everything up, f*** the owners, yada yada

Hiring Tocchet or being even remotely interested in him just shows how continuously out of touch they are. WE ARE NOT A PLAYOFF TEAM. We need to draft and develop and coaching, as shitty as it was, isn't the reason we aren't a playoff team. FFS guys.

Tocchet is trash at developing players. I wouldn't say Garland or OEL much since they were both pretty good by the time he got there and played decently under him, especially Garland- OEL looked like he was declining pretty much ever since his fathers death and just wasn't the same player after that. I think he more needed to get rid of the pressure of being number one more than anything.

Strome was never given much of a chance under Tocchet or Tippett, but he also is the exact same player he was in Arizona. In Washington he's just been given more of a role and forgiven for his flaws and had his strengths maximized.

Tocchet just straight up isn't good at getting offense out of his star players and prospects and overfavours the hell out of his middle and bottom six grinders. He's able to leverage defense well and wants guys to play that kind of system but that kind of style is dying in the NHL and needs the roster to be setup for that.

I actually think he'd be great for Seattle's points...but we don't need that at all lol.

On our part sure, on the journalists side it shouldn't just be speculation.

Though, they also said it coule also be just some other team making him a bette offer.
I mean, the same time we were said to be close to Love the Bruins were rumored to give the job to Sturm and all of a a sudden neither one happened.

Let's see what happens but as mostly everyone said, that reporting(and if there's anything to it) actually hurts Campbell the most and that's unnecessary.
