New Head Coach-who will it be?

I want a young guy who can grow with this team like Woodcroft or Leach .

Definitely a no on Tocchet

Per Friedman is doesn’t look like Tocchet wants to come to Seattle per his interview on D and D this morning in Vancouver

friedman speculates a lot cause he runs 32 thoughts so he thinks Tocchet coaching Seattle is isn't going to happen which is his own opinion and its possible Tocchet has declined seattle's offer.

I'm not sure how much more maretable Hakstol or Bylsma were.

Marketing, for this team, happens way more through videos, tweets etc. and not the coaches.
You forget all those post-game pressers that had people (including Cups) gushing over "what a nice guy" Bylsma is....crap like that.

Tocchet isnt that. He's a smug douche that acts annoyed when the press asks him questions.

Well, I don't think Bylsma or Hakstol are anything special when it comes to market your team etc.

Anyways, according to Friedman it seems like Tocchet won't join the Kraken.

BTW: Sound of Hockey looks at potential coaching candidates for the Kraken.

And Emerald City Hockey talked about potential coaching candidates.

They were absolutely part of the fan-friendly "nice guy" image the team leans into HARD, marketing-wise. That day Cups declared Bylsma a "nice guy" it was wall-to-wall all over my Bluesky feed.

Interesting listen. They plainly like Tocchet for the job a lot more than I do, but their reasons are pretty valid.
What we saw last year was a team that Bylsma didn't have prepared time and again, and was totally inconsistent.

ECH says the gruffness and hard-assery of Tocc would fix this with structure and that old buzzword of "accountability" for the players.
I suppose he does do that, and the Kraken could stand to play better team defense.
Scoring consistently is a problem too, and if a coach is the type to demand a rigid system that stifles creativity I'm worried about the future of our best prospects under him.

Edit: I like what they're saying about Mitch Love.

From what i heard when listening to what friedman said yesterday. he wasn't convinced Tocchet was gonna end up with Seattle. I see that more of an opinion i mean he could very well be right and Tocchet ends up some where else.

That's actually one of Tocchet's huge issues. It's why I speculate he'll go down as a fantastic Assistant and a terrible Head Coach. He talks a lot about "accountability" but then doesnt want to be the bad guy. He wants to keep being the "good cop" Assistant Coach like when he came up with PIT and whoever. Look at how dysfunctional Vancouver was this year. That's him in a nutshell.

Tocchet is a decent head coach but I absolutely don't think we should ever consider hiring him.

He's not great at developing players and he makes the same kind of mistakes that Bylsma does because he's way too focused on getting every drop out of his players and the team and on winning. And he's not as good as a guy like Tippett or Torts at doing that, so you just kinda have a middling version that won't even win you games or develop your guys.

I haven't heard a better discussion of coaching possibilities concerning the Kraken anywhere. It reassures me a little that they are positive about Tocchet's ability simply because they seem so knowledgeable about the team and the coaching prospects available--yet they are articulate about his potential limitations, too. They sure make Love and Donskov sound like interesting candidates, though. Would far prefer to go in that general direction than to opt for a retread who might appear compatible on paper.

Sounds like the Flyers will help us avoid this decision.

Yep, Flyers are expected to name Tocchet as their new head coach.

The Canucks will make Adam Foote their new head coach.

Jay Woodcroft among candiages for the Bruins

It seems like there are more positions being filled and the Kraken should know better who's actually available to them.
I still hope, like many others, that we're going for one of the assistant coaches like a Mitch Love etc.

These vet coaches getting out of the way is good. My heart says, get a new first time NHL head coach, but my brain says that management is unlikely to want an "unknown" like that.

I’m of the same opinion. I don’t think any of the available coaches are ones I’d want. What I want is somebody who has been a fixture as an assistant under a good coach with a good development track record and at minimum in season success for a long time and seen how to do it right. There are several out there, they just have to want to be head coach.

Yeah, I think they might want a "name" etc. after Hakstol(who no one else had on their radar) and Bylsma(who wasn't on anyones radar after his problems in Buffalo).

Though, having Samantha Holloway say that she(and therefore ownership) want to be competitive "as soon as possible" instead of "next season/" could give some room for a more unproven guy that could grow with the team.

I'm very interested in Mitch Love and also won't stop mentioning Marco Sturm as an option. :D

I wonder if Manny Malhotra is on the Kraken’s radar. Passed up for, of all people, Adam Foote because Vancouver’s cheap ass owner saves $20 million compared to what Tocchet wanted, he’s had success coaching Abbotsford and was a premier faceoff man, a skill Seattle’s young centres could improve upon.
He wouldn’t necessarily be my first choice, but he’s not a bad option and will be a HC at some point.

Tocchet got 5x$5m from Philadelphia. Unreal. Wonder if the Kraken rumors was actually him trying to leverage more $$$ out of them.

I should caveat, I dont see an actual source on that number now that I look back for one. It's just what people were throwing around in the main board thread.
