New Head Coach-who will it be?

I wouldn’t hate to see Jeremy Colliton get another shot, if they’re hell bent on retreads. Felt like he didn’t really get a fair look with the Blackhawks pivoting to full tank mode out from under him.

Todd Nelson is another “bombed out of his first NHL gig, went to the AHL and has been absolutely killing it the last couple years” guy if they didn’t get that out of their system with Bylsma

Jeff Halpern has made a pretty good name for himself as an assistant in Tampa the last few seasons, specifically running a pretty damn good power play.

Marco Sturm is another up and comer, currently in the AHL.

I’m writing these individually in case anyone wants to discuss a specific dude they can just reply to that one.

Van Ryn arrived after I moved on from the Leafs, but he seems to be very well thought of among the Toronto media. I like everything that I have heard about Sturm and wanted him to be a candidate after Hakstol was fired. So I would be really thumb's up on his candidacy.

I liked Colliton. I thought he utilized what was on that roster really well.

As the game has changed so much over the decades I have been following hockey I think that what teams need now is a head coach who knows what kind of coaching team he needs. Although the head coaches carry all the glory and the blame the game has changed so much that it ain't on head coach so much anymore.
Good franchise needs a great coaching team. There are head coaches that carry a lot of weight but there are also good head coaches that get things done very well by delegating things. In our case I think we need a clear idea what is our identity as a team and an assistant coach who is in charge of the defenders and get them really to commit in our new system. What I have heard about Campbell I'm convinced she can develop our young guys in areas they need to progress the most.
By getting our PP and PK in order we can reach the play offs very soon. For our PK there are several options with trades to get instantly better and I don't think it would cost us much either.
But the head coach needs to have a clear vision what he wants to achieve and how it will be done. Could be a name that we are already familiar with or a relatively new comer. There is a lot of talent out there.

Looks like Mike Sullivan and Pens parted ways. He is one of the SC cup winning coaches I want to stay away from. Winning with prime Crosy, Malkin and a healthier and younger Letang is not nothing, especially since he went back-to-back in 2016 and 2017. However, since then he has made it past the 1st round only once, in 2018, where he lost in the 2nd round.

I would like to have a coach who is more experienced working with less talent and younger players.

Sullivan is basically Drury's dream coach. I'd be shocked if he doesn't end up with the Rangers.

Well, that Pittsburgh connection came to my mind when I read him being let go by the Pens.

I also wouldn't mind him going somewhere else.

There you go Rangers....

It appears that Tocchet was the one to pull the plug on Vancouver. I wonder if he would do that if the Flyers didn't have a head coaching vacancy.

I don’t understand why people think Brind’Amour will come to Seattle due to “connections” but ignore the same “connections” linking Tocchet to Philadelphia, and make him a top candidate for Seattle as well? It sometimes feels like everyone is a “top candidate” to come to Seattle, regardless of obvious reasons why the Kraken would be much further down the player/coach’s list of choices?

Based on reading the Rangers would likely want Sullivan and Philly would want Tocchet. Maybe it happens.

Tocchet's departure just strikes me as weird. The timing is just strange to me.

Yeah.
The wole situation was weird.

Vancouver would like to keep him, has a contract option but doesn't use it.
And the Kraken fire Bylsma immediatly.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tocchet will be presented as the new Kraken head coach within a short amount of time.

Tocchet would be a weird choice. He's a systems coach that's not good with kids, not very adaptable and his system is not speed based or creative. Basically he is the antithesis of what Botterill said his vision of Kraken hockey is.

Ya’ll are crazy lmao

What about any of that scenario leads you to believe he’s a lock for Seattle? QAnon level conspiracy bunkum.

Here, I’ll try one…

He had a handshake agreement that if the Flyers job ever came open they wouldn’t pick up his option.

When the facts are scarce and speculation is all we got, people tend to look into connections as a big factor. And I think it does matter but let's be honest here that neither the Penguins, Flyers or Kraken are good targets for any coach looking to win now and in my opinion should be a very small factor making this decision.

Rumor has it that Sullivan wanted no part of a rebuild in Pittsburgh. That would make me think he has no interest in joining th Kraken. No idea why Tocchet left but the Canucks are in a considerably better spot than we are at this moment. A smart coach should be looking for what the team offers not today but a vision of the future and the plan to get there.

Well, if Botterll is really looking for a coach that includes the youngsterns I'm not sure why you fire Bylsma after one season given his track record in CV.

Overall I agree, Tocchet would be a weird choice and one I'm not all that interest in.

Though, he would be the opposite of what Hakstol and Bylsma presented as he's not really a player's coach and more of a hard a$$ on guys.

His ties to the Seattle organization and especially Francis and Botterill.
Just weird to me that he doesn't resign in Vancouver and the Kraken fire their coach.

But yeah, could also mean nothing.

BTW: It seems like Jay Leach, Jeff Halpern and Jeff Blashil are drawing interest.

I don't think Leach would be brought in after the Kraken choose Bylsma over him last year.
I've got no interest in Blashill but Halpern would be interesting having spend a long time as Coopers assistant in Tamp Bay.

Overall I think an assistant from a successful franchise might be the way to go.

Halpern being on the list is very interesting. I really like the idea. He's got experience in a winning organization with a winning culture in a system that has done exceptionally well in development.

Blashill isn't a great idea, but it's not the worst thing. Jay Leach is one I wouldn't want, but he may end up being a good head coach somewhere someday.

That's kinda what I'm saying though. We keep attributing "played with Francis for a bit" as some silver bullet. Some of these guys have considerably stronger ties to other organizations than Seattle. To say "I bet they announce him soon" is kinda wild.
