Goal Song Thread Part III

Ladies and gentlemen. I found the perfect compromise.

Good luck chanting HEY YOU SUCK! with the Zubie-fied RRP2. We get the song back and the family friendly crowd gets their way because it would be made impossible to chant HEY YOU SUCK!

Brilliant if you ask me.

Private enterprise, thus protection of freedom of speech is not in play.

And a chant will work so much better when the song accommodates it. Can fans chant it regardless? Sure, but does it work when it's not in unison, or when drowned out by music. Previous song had lulls which so prefectly allowed for the chant. Next song may not.

Private enterprise or not, the Devils fans could chant "THIS SONG SUCKS! THIS SONG SUCKS! THIS SONG SUCKS!" even after the "new" goal song is played.

And they might keep doing that OR they might start chanting RRP2 in unison as a show of solidarity against management....

The owners should not underestimate the passion of Devils fans...

Oh and....CONTINUE.... :sarcasm:

I know they can, but does it have the same emphasis, or does it allow for a unison chant which provides emphasis. They can certainly manipulate those factors. But as I've said this does not cure the "rangers suck" chant.

And oddly I think this little controversy could be a good thing for the org. Get the crowd all worked up. Get people talking. See how it plays out of coarse, maybe it won't be positive in the end, but it certainly has generated interest.

I just got done talking to my rep. Said that he looked at the results briefly and said that a NUMBER of fans are writing in Rock and Roll Part 2 and that it's an "overwhelming favorite". Said that he's "on the fans side" and that he doesn't know if management will disregard the votes or not but because it's been so many fans requesting that song thinks they might not be able to...

While I'd like to believe they'd go back, I think the line has been drawn in the sand.

Unless the fans continue to boo and deride the goal song to the point where it's embarassing.

Maybe we should tell Obama to give Josh a ring.

Please guys. If you want the old song back, let it be known. Strength in numbers and a collective loud voice.

It looks like it might happen. Although it could be a loss cause as management could totally disregard the votes.

I urge STH's to call their reps and see if what my rep has said is true or not. If so then this actually might have a chance.

This would be an awesome new tradition, right management? I seriously hope this happens, would be awesome. Imagine a 5-1 devils win where they boo after every goal haha! It would confuse the hell out of everyone.

That's one rep's opinion...management has made it pretty clear they want a NEW song. People are being so ridiculous about this it's to the point now where I hope management doesn't back down and our fanbase looks like idiots booing the goal song the rest of the season.

Plus if the song does come back it'll really never go away and we'll have to deal with the back and forth carping from the people who don't like it for the next fifty years. I like the song and could care less about 'suck' but I'd rather just end it now, I'm tired of this being a frigging flashpoint year after year.

The entire stupidity of this debate has me as embarrassed as I've ever been off this fan base.

We are the LAST winless team in the league, facing the possibility of being a lottery pick team with no lottery pick, and creeping doubts about our last top 5 pick.

Yet we have the audacity to rail against team ownership for the right to yell out how the other guys suck. Yeah I'm sure that'll make us a tough place to play while the other teams/fans are pissing down at us on the standings. Or better, let's boo when our guys score to complete the look of a laughingstock franchise.

The team that cultivated a winning culture and a model of efficiency in the 90s and early 2000s has declared they want no part of this garbage but fans won't have it and want to *force* the team to accept it by humiliating ourselves.

When Gretzky called us a Mickey Mouse organization, Lou and Co. turned it around by getting it done on the ice. Scott Stevens and Marty (among many others) made us an intimidating team to play. Now we're prepared to let Marty's last season(s) become a humiliation.

Scotty made "You're next" famous...

But we're willing to go scorched earth over "You suck"

Criticize my opinion all you want, but the song had deep meaning for me as a Devils fan. I couldn't care less about chanting anything.

:edit: this isn't directed as a reply to anyone. Just a general statement.

Why so surprised, MartyOwns?

Considering that we don't have the power to fire Deboer's butt or make lineup changes that MAKE SENSE, trying to get RRP2 back remains the only thing we are *allegedly* able to do.

Of course, as stated, they could disregard all the RRP2 votes which would be the ultimate slap in the face but they don't give a s*** so long as the OWNERS get what they want. It's not about us Devils fans(THEIR CUSTOMERS)....It's always about Josh getting drunk off his azz and pretending things are hunky-dory....

Hucksterbeek may not have been a very popular owner here but at least he knew(for the most part) that RRP2 is a staple of the Devils....

Yeah, this song seemed to be the consensus favorite towards the end of the last thread. I liked it enough to give it my vote (which was originally going to be a protest vote for RRpt2).

Not sure if this song is trending anywhere outside HF. If it is the majority pick on this board, we need to give it a push elsewhere.

Just 3 posts above you - each thread is good for a few such complaints. Some people out there can actually multitask and discuss things other than firing DeBoer or trading Larsson.

Hucksterbeek may not have been a very popular owner here but at least he knew(for the most part) that RRP2 is a staple of the Devils....

I think he was pretty popular until it was clear he was broke and encumbering the franchise with his bad finances. New owners are not off to the greatest start but I expect they will improve.

I know a great place to start.

Despite my vote for the excellent custom song, I completely agree with you. Hoping the revolt is beyond their wildest expectations and that it does not simmer down after a few games (which is what I imagine they are banking on).

I'm not sure that a pro sports crowd will be able or willing to maintain a fan revolt though. I went through this same situation in college (university administration ordered the pep band to stop playing RRpt2 to put an end to 'you suck' chants) and the result was the chants became more frequent and louder for years afterwards.

Imagine a large student section singing the whole lead up (starting with da da daaaa...dadaaaa....dadaaaa repeated 3 times to the 'hey' part) - awesome stuff.

People are upset because getting rid of RRP2 completely destroys the awesome atmosphere each goal creates at the rock. We're being force fed garbage and we're not just going to sit around and take it.

Shake your head all you want, we pay good money to go to these games and deserve to voice our opinions.

Pretty much sums it up. The atmosphere in there rocked.
