Blue Jays Discussion: New Contract offer to Vladdy? Berrios opening Day pitcher

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Gimenez in the 4 hole is an odd choice too. Not really the type of guy i see as a cleanup hitter lol.

If anything you flip him and Bo. or move Bo into 3 and put Santander in cleanup.

While I don't necessarily like it, I think they are trying to split up Santander and Kirk to lower the number of DP (while not having confidence in anyone else leading off). Hopefully, one of the kids takes the leadoff spot, which would fix this.

He's actually insane if he's turning this down.

Is it just me, or does Vladdy's ask keep going up every time one of these rumours comes out?

*Vladdy's looking for $450 million but the Jays aren't close*
*Jays are offering $400+ million*
*Vladdy's looking for $500 million*
*Jays are willing to go close to $500 million*
*Vladdy's looking for $550-600 million*
*Jays are offering $550-600 million*

I've had serious doubts that Vlad's camp has been negotiating in good faith.

I think i've seen the 500-600 million range is where it's been for the last few weeks.

Really makes you wonder where his head is at. I saw a couple fans on reddit say it's starting to feel like Vladdy is moving the goal posts so he can make it look like he wanted to stay but it didn't work out.

At this point i'm not really sure what to make of it. it sure feels like the Jays are doing what they can to the best of their abilities and they're getting screwed around, but i'm not in the negotiating room.

Edit: Also worth pointing out he probably loses out on money if he goes to FA at this point. There's no way a team would give him 550 million on the open market.

They aren't using the same base. 450 and 400 were NPV. 500 was Vladdy's initial ask. The last numbers are actual dollars (including deferrals). It's lazy reporting.

At this point you might as well let Vlad get humbled by the market. Or trade him.
The problem is that when the media is crap reporting, we don't know what's going on.

A gap could mean that they are a couple of million apart or it could mean that the Jays offered the same thing structured differently.

The best bet is to wait while this happens and if talks break down, we will likely find out more (in like terms instead of random numbers). Made and offer and there is a gap could easily mean that the Jays bridged the gap some and are expecting Vladdy to bridge it the rest of the way (ie on a 50M difference, maybe they offer 20M more and hope that Vladdy's camp comes back with 25 or 30M more than the original offer).

Has that actually been reported, or is it an assumption?
The Jays reported that the 450 and 500 numbers were NPV when the deadline passed. I believe it was BNS. He also mentioned that it was more than 450M in actual money (some deferrals). There was a dollar difference but there were also some structural differences in what both sides wanted (Vladdy's side was asking for "escalators")

Now that I've posted this, I see SN has posted an article today: Report: Blue Jays make another offer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

This references the same thing.
