Blue Jays Discussion: New Contract offer to Vladdy? Berrios opening Day pitcher

Something to keep in mind is that the Jays have never had a "career" Blue Jay.

The record for most games played as a Jay is Fernandez (traded to SD), Delgado (left as FA), Wells (traded to the Angels), Moseby (left as FA), Bautista (acquired from Pittsburgh), and Whitt (expansion draft pick to Toronto and traded to Atlanta) with the top pitchers being Stieb (left as FA), Clancy (expansion pick and left as FA), Halladay (traded to Philly), Key (left as FA) and Hentgen (traded to St. Louis)

They went out of their way to makes Wells a career Blue Jay. It just... didn't work out so well.

Garth Iorg played 931 games as a one-team Blue Jay and I think that’s the record.

They said on the radio someone translated it and he said something to the effect of "If i have a great season i can get 700M, if I have a bad season i can still get 500M"

Dude is starting to lose a LOT of positive fan sentiment.
Yeah, his career OPS is nearly 100 points lower than Soto. He would need to put up another 1.000+ ops season to get close to that type of money. If I'm the Jays, I'm in no rush to sign him.

And bringing up the Yankees all the time.

He still hasn't grown up , I personally don't care for his attitude.

Vladdy responded to the sentiment of the front office. Wasn't as flowery as Shapiro but he appears to also be somewhat optimistic.

I would love to know what Romero did during the 2012 ASB. Because my f***ing god, he was absolutely horrendous after that and he was never the same going forward.

He was pretty much shit for all of 2012. I assume you meant 2011, but he actually played even better than the first half of that season. Way more groundballs, way more weak contact, and yes he was fairly lucky as it all culminated in some insanely high LOB% and low BABIP. Like Marco Estrada you pretty much knew he was going to either throw the FB or the CH, but if you chose wrong, then it's a groundball (in Estrada's case a flyball).

I remember the rumours floating around that his drop in performance lined up with his breakup with Miss USA. Then the surgeries and treatment started becoming more frequent and it became known that he was dealing with issues in both of his knees for years.

Truth be told, he was also a failed prospect that struck lightning in a bottle for a few years. He had zero control in the minors and had reverse splits as a lefty... Jays managed to eke some value out of him and Aaron Sanchez despite similar trajectory as failed top pitching prospects that just came up due to pedigree.

Ernie Clement was raving about WW’s defence at third. Looks like he has plenty of arm for it.
Definitely a positive answer to a spring question, of many nice stories.
He can play some second to spell Gimenez (who can spell Bo), some third with Clement, spell Vladdy, and DH some.
Pretty good pathway to getting into as many games as his bat can force.
Santander, Bichette, Vladdy, Gimenez, Varsho are all full time guys, 150+ games. C is covered.
Clement and Wags cover third.
Springer’s got an OF spot to start, but there’s good guys pushing right now taking the rest of the AB’s. One of two spots where there’s some contention….but also some of the best performances from the spring (coincidentally LH bats)
Lastly, there’s DH where Wags can get lots of reps and whoever else is earning them (Schneider is earning his spot).
Spring is playing out real well on the position player side and AAA gonna put up lots of runs
