Arena in Novokuznetsk is also being renovated.

Looks neat, great mix between old and new. As much as I like the new, American-styled arenas, these old Soviet barns can still look good and still be good venues for professional hockey if renovated properly.

Yeah, it's really nice to see. Novokuznetsk's arena was as ugly as the city itself. It isn't even that old, it just looked run down and terrible. Nice to see it getting a facelift. Any chance at all Kuznya can play there if they make the finals?

If nothing has changed, SKA Arena will have over 21 000 capacity, so should be the biggest hockey arena in the world.

Very nice.
When should it open their gates?
Will be then the finest hockey arena in Europe?
It is supposed to host the WC 2023, which starts in May. So it should be ready a little bit before that. Also the capacity isn't the only thing that matters, and opinions are subjective, but it's up there for sure.

We have April 2021. Hm, is it possible to build such project in less than 2 years?

They have already been building it for more than 10 months. And yes, it's possible. Concrete works should be done this year and in 2022 they'll have enough time for metal frames and interiors.

The Blackhawks averaged 22,734 before COVID-19.
Thank you for the information.

If you disagree with the statement then I recommend you to complain to The Associated Press. See.

The Bell Centre in Montreal is currently the world's largest arena to host regular hockey games, accommodating 21,288 fans in its hockey configuration.

Thanks.

Now, please discuss the KHL venues.

According to wiki it's:

Hockey
YearsCapacity
1994–200920,500
2009–present 19,717
With standing room22,428
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
United Center - Wikipedia

And record attendance was "Ice hockey: 22,690, October 25, 2008, against Detroit Red Wings."

So if we talk about a number of seats it's almost 2 thousand less.

SKA arena is supposed to be 21500 for hockey and 23000 for concerts. But it might change because they always can cram more seats. Which I am strongly opposed to.

Does anyone know what KHL arenas will use NHL size next season?
I am certain there is a more recent visualization available but I couldn't find it. As far as I know, no other team has switched to the NHL-sized rink than the ones in the picture. The 30x60 teams have all switched to 28x60.

This season (2019-20), teams in the KHL are using three different sizes of ice in their arenas. Following a poll of all 24 clubs, it became clear than an absolute majority (16 out of 24) favors a uniform playing surface of 60x28m.
In response the league has decided that all teams should move to a smaller rink size by the start of the 2021-22 season allowing playing both 60x28 and 60x26 surfaces. Before the start of next season, five teams (Jokerit, Lokomotiv, Salavat Yulaev, Traktor, Torpedo) will reduce the width of their rinks from 30m to 28m. Dinamo Riga and Kunlun Red Star will follow suit before the start of the 2021-22 season. Next season, 22 out of the 24 clubs in the KHL will play on a allowable size of ice pad.

They haven't even started to demolish the swimming complex and LDS CSKA yet. Nothing's changed, people still work there. That is if they still plan to build a new arena there.

Is it new from ground up? Project feels like 1980s. Although maybe that's just the realities of those medium-size, medium-importance arenas.
