Belmar
I just checked Florida GDT for my own morbid curiosity. Of course they defaulted to the tired old “imagine living in New Jersey” comments. Yeah, imagine living in a state that is top 3 in education, household income, and healthcare? It’s truly awful!
They should come to Belmar NJ sometime. What a life here.

And as someone else noted, the food choices and quality in that state is TRASH. My god, I’d kill myself. We literally live in the food mecca of the world up here and I am so grateful for it.

I honestly have no faith in Blackwood, but wouldn't be super surprised if a mini heater happens, maybe like the 2019 second half Cory Schneider market correction heater. I also don't have a ton of faith in that happening either, but it wouldn't be the most shocking thing I have ever seen.

I find it particularly that when he sucks (Philly game, Washington game) people blame the team and defense, but when he has a game like last night, people are so quick to give him all the credit.

I would not say he played well last because of the team/defense, that's for sure.

The 2nd intermission I kept dreading that the backbreaker might be coming and we could see 2 more goals before the night was over.

We did see two more goals (three with the empty net) and a backbreaker, but the backbreaker was the second Bratt goal on Bob (softy through the arm) and the Sharangovich deflection goal.

Feels like that could be the backbreaker for the Panthers, they're NHL 500 and they've hardly got any wins in their last 8 or 9 games (CBJ and us) and unlike us early on, they weren't getting a whole lot of wins early in the year either.

And talk about playing the WRONG goalie. If I were a Panthers fan I would totally wanna punch Ole' Four Eyes for how much he's leaning on Bob, who has been the inferior goalie this year. Knight was out sick for a little, then comes back for a few games to sit backup behind Bob, before they threw him in there against Boston, who he stunk against.

In a country that often feels increasingly homogeneous, it's sometimes nice to see these charming little touches of regionalism, even in they are in the bizarre form of shitting on other states due to a hockey rivalry.
Interesting.

Because I feel like I have less and less in common with the South and Midwest as each day passes.

Especially Florida.

I don't mind the food here, as there's lots of good Latin/Mexican stuff here, which despite having none of it in my bloodline is more my thing than Italian. I do like Italian, by the way, but I also seem to fancy Latino and Chinese/Japanese more than my Italian stuff. There is a much better selection of ethnic foods up there though. And for some reason I've always thought the Chinese food (much like pizza, which is obvious) up there was MUCH better than any of the Chinese I've eaten elsewhere in the country.

I do miss the pizza up there, but I've found one place within a reasonable drive that is as good as I can get near me.

And I'd LOVE to live in Belmar, except for how cold it gets in the winter, which is the same for the entire region.

I wish I could do the snowbird thing and I would absolutely spend the summer at the shore in Jersey and the winter down here where I am.

I'm a little more of a Manasquan guy than Belmar. That's my place. Spent a few summers there as a kid. We had a family summer home down there, but that's been out of the family for yearssssss now. Sucks.

lol, if you makes you guys feel any better, my mom wanted to buy in Asbury about 15 years ago and my dad axed it for the family.

Needless to say, that ship has sailed.

Florida is almost like being in Jersey sometimes, particularly this time of year.

You hear a lot of accents from up north and see a lot of Jersey plates and sit in a ton of traffic. It's snowbird mania this time of year.

I hear a lot of accents from up home year round, but I also feel like I hear a lot of southern ones too.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

Being the Captain of a team should never have a requirement to drop the gloves with a goon when you're not a fighter to begin with.

The days of "street cred" on the ice are done.

Nico leads by example by how he PLAYS THE GAME, not by how much of a Neanderthal he can (or can't) be like Tkachuk.

Just stop.
Sorry, you don't get to tell anyone to stop. Besides that, you don't know what the players on the team think of how the whole thing went down. If they don't care, fine, if they do care, that matters. Your opinion on the subject is ultimately meaningless as is mine. This isn't a court of public opinion thing. I don't want Hischier having to get punched by that gutless moron. But how do the other guys in the locker room want it handled? As the captain I do think that matters if they think it matters.

For some strange reason Boqvist constantly catches my eye in person. He did during the game last year.

He looks like a GOOD player, but he just doesn't have any scoring ability.

Dougie Hamilton is a really fun player to watch in person. I'm not saying he's not exciting on TV, but he's exceptionally fun to watch in person.

I'm not sure if the stats would indicate Bahl had a good game or not, but he looks pretty good out there.

Hopefully Marino is back soon, but I'm not nearly as hopeful on Graves. That looks like that could be the longest injury we've had this year.

But hey, Scott Wedgewood got stretchered off the ice a few weeks back and was playing within 2 weeks.

Boqvist had a good game. A lot of players did too that game. At least from TV pov this game felt good. Like. We had that swagger to win, type of game.

I agree with you on he looks good to eyetest. Has speed and hands. Wish he could do more. I was about to jump off the Boq train from the carolina game but he bought more time..

Haula got CRUSHED multiple times last night.

I'm surprised there's anything left of his body. Happened once near me and a couple other times. Jack kind of fell over and possible into the board in I think it was the 3rd period and that kind of scared me. I don't think he crashed too hard.

Jack took a big hit when he went hard to the net for a scoring chance too. And yeah, when he went into the boards I got really scared for a second. Luckily he popped right up.

Also Haula blocked a shot during the last stretch to end game. There is a clip of him hunched over on the bench after tatar scored...with i think (edit... Mango) consoling him patting him on back..

Getting beatup before his Boston game.

I sure do.

They’ve been popping up more and more the last so many years.

There weren’t as many when I moved here in 2011. And 20 years ago when I was just a frequent visitor, I’m not sure if there were any here.

okay you....

If you don't stop this, I am going to start saying that "Ben LoveJoy is a Beer League hockey player".

Don't think I won't...

Let them keep thinking NJ is the pits. We can enjoy the beaches, hiking trails, nature reservations, and infinitely better food.
I love the beaches in Jersey.

Only major problem is that I can’t swim in them on Christmas, like I can sometimes hear. Some years it’s too cold by Christmas though.
