Free version of Spotify is easier and better than having to go places and download things to equal the "free version" of Netflix.

So the easy answer here in Netflix

Netflix. If I fell on hard economic times I'd rather have access to a bunch of shows than music. I have 1100 songs in my iTunes. I can live without access to others I don't have. Or I can listen to them on YouTube.

This entirely.

I don't get people who pay for netflix when you can stream the same shows free online. Yes you have to make a few more clicks, but they have one big thing netflix doesn: up to date on current shows.

If you are watching a season airing every week, its free to stream each episode online like 7 minutes after it airs, netflix you gotta wait 8 month for the full season. If I only used netflix and nothing else youd be watching things months late.

Spotify is great

As good as online pirate streams have gotten, they don't have consistent 1080p streaming.

I use them too, probably everybody does, but they just aren't on the level of premium streaming services yet. A lot of time torrents also have that video quality issue and you can't know until it's done or almost done, and yes file size is a good indicator but I've downloaded 2.5 gb movies that look like crap

You can pirate a song and it will be the same quality as a legal mp3 or Spotify song

Don't get me wrong I love spotify

I can use "other methods" to watch any show I want

Sure you can use other methods to listen to music but Spotify is so much more convenient and great for discovery of new music

I find this argument works a lot better the other way around. Music downloading is much easier and much more convenient than movie downloads, and music torrenting sites have some of the best communities around for discovering new music.

I've been paying for spotify. Because of a phone package upgrade, I'm now going to get it free from my provider (Rogers). Does anyone know if it's possible to cancel my paid subscription and take up my free subscription without losing all the music i've downloaded and custom streaming lists i've created? (i.e. will what i currently have get wiped out if i switch from my paid premium version to the rogers-provided premium version?)

I just did this. You don't lose it all. But all your offline songs will be automatically deleted.

The saved songs will stay. I never used playlists so I don't know about that one.

What's the difference between offline songs and saved songs? Aren't offline songs your saved songs?

Not trolling...honestly obtuse about this sort of stuff.

Offline songs are offline, they dont use data.

Saved songs just get saved to your library, you still need data to play them.

They stay in your library, but they wont be offline anymore once your subscription or plan is done.

But I just realized I misunderstood your question, I thought you said cancelling you subscription altogether, my mistake. Dont know how that one works.

However, I would assume if you go to the free version at any point you will lose your offline songs. It happened to me immediately.

I pretty much only ever use spotify on my phone. That's maybe why i'm a bit confused. Our home music library doesn't run off my own spotify.

I think I have to cancel my subscription if I want to stop paying for it, but don't really know.

But just to clarify what i'm asking:

1. I have a spotify premium account that I am currently paying a monthly fee for
2. I just upgraded my phone data plan and as a "sweetener" rogers included a free shomi (sort of like netflix) or a free spotify premium.
3. I already get shomi for free and since i'm paying for spotify premium would be happy to get spotify premium for free through rogers
4. Obv if I'm getting spotify premium for free through rogers I won't keep paying for it
5. I'm wondering if my current spotify songs, streams, etc will disappear if, rather than paying for spotify premium, i get premium for free through rogers as part of my data upgrade inducement

Watching movies or TV shows on*Netflix*uses about 1 GB of data per hour for each stream of standard definition video, and up to 3 GB per hour for each stream of HD video. This can create headaches for*Netflix*members who have a monthly*bandwidthor data cap on their Internet service.

Male sure you have unlimited internet or change you Netflix settings under your account.

This is....a really tough decision for me. I think the value of Netflix is higher but working in an office for at least 8 hours a day....I use Spotify (premium) for longer and more often.

Think I'd go with Spotify if I had to pick but thankfully I don't.

I really can't understand ever using spotify. Not when you can easily rip the mp3 files from your CDs and put them in a dedicated music player (doesn't ALWAYS have to be your phone...most people miss this point. Furthermore, most android phones come with MicroSD card support, which is a godsend when you see how often MicroSDs can go on sale, thus giving even MORE space so long as you know how to create a partition in the phone to access that space). It's a wonder that music streaming is even a thing since people are paying more to listen to music that they likely already have access to.

At least Netflix gives you access to shows and is generally worth its admission price...that is, until you realize that Netflix is gimped in most places. Netflix Canada doesn't have anywhere near the kind of content that we see in USA, so that leads to VPN usage (which they're cracking down on). Nonetheless, I'd rather pay for Netflix than Spotify.

I actually do this now, but it's a hassle. Spotify is more convenient, you just type in the song and put it in whatever play list you want, or discover new artists,

Also Spotify has video game music that I had a hard time even finding pirated versions of

It really is more convenient than downloading

But I do actually do what you're saying now, and I've gotten into listening to full albums more now. It's kind of a nice change

I will say though google play has a much better free service than Spotify.

Spotify. Probably the best money I spend every month. Never even use Netflix anymore.
