Star Fox 2? What's the story behind that one? Why wasn't it released?

Short answer:

It was finished but they didn't release it because miyamoto didn't want it competing with the n64, unfortunately they didn't realize the n64 wasn't coming out for another year and a half at the time

I've seen some videos of the gameplay and it looks to run much faster than star fox 1, which was like 5 fps.

Cool! I had no idea.

It also sounds like alot of money wasted/lost.

Controller cable length is apparently only 5 feet (which is still somehow 2 feet longer than the NES Classic controllers.)

Sold. It's got pretty much all the games i want sans All-Stars.

Can you pre-order something like that or do i have to actually try to get one myself.

I've only seen people talking about UK pre-orders so far, which have already sold out.

Similar to the NES Classic, even if you pre-order, you're not confirmed to get one. It will be the same shtick as last time.

Which means I'm not even about to bother.

I have Super Ghouls n Ghosts on the PS2 anyhow.

My SNES is still going strong (bought NHL '96 with box for $10 just a couple weeks ago), so I'll probably skip this one. Plus I only have fond childhood memories of maybe 5 of the 20 titles which I still have the cartridges for.

The replies to Nintendo of Canada's twitter account for their announcement of this may not be as positive as Nintendo hoped. I would say 95% of the replies are just people lamenting how it won't be available anyways.

This thing almost feels like Nintendo is mocking their fanbase.

Would of loved a few more games to get the other two DKC and Megaman X games on there.

Couple more RPGs would of been nice. Chrono Trigger of course, but a game like Breath of Fire might of been a nice addition.

Mario Allstars of course.

If you still have a PS2, just pick up the Mega Man X collection. I'm sure it might be available on other platforms too.

Nintendo doesn't give a damn. It will sell out regardless. Either for the nerds themselves or flipping it at ridiculous prices.

To be honest, I wasn't interested in this anyhow. Even before the first fiasco. It's great nostalgia but this would just collect dusk for me. That said, I still would pick up the Nintendo unit if they are ever produced in mass.

I had the Sega Genesis after NES and always preferred that to SNES.

Any word on if this can play all SNES cartridges? Or just the built-in games?

Just the built-in games. Though I'm sure it will be hacked to have more games (as was the case with the NES Classic) sooner or later.

I wish these things would play the original carts. Is finding one of the original machines that still works the only way to find something that will play them?

If you have carts, I don't think it is that expensive to get your hands on a working SNES if you want a cart playing machine.

Nintendo made extremely durable systems. I was shocked how long my SNES lasted.

Mine is still going strong, the adapter has been loose for about 20 years though so you have to be careful not to bump it. Got about 3/4 through Jurassic Park one time about 15 years ago and knocked the cord loose. If you've played it before, it's a long game and doesn't have save files. I don't think I ever played it again after that.

I was in the same position as a kid and made the same justification.

I was very wrong. It doesn't even feel fair to compare the two systems anymore. Its like comparing Wayne Gretzky to Brent Gretzky.
