I think the Devils would be out of their mind nuts to trade this player. You need to play him.

You're telling me Siegenthaler or Dillon are too proud to play less for a game or two?
lhd

it would be most likely kovacevic. or pesce or hamilton to recharge. since the early injuries to pesce and luke hughes the backend has been ....

i better don't say anything.

For NJD to trade Nemec I feel like the following conditions need to be met :
- Over the next 2/3 years, they don t see him as a material improvement over any of the current RHD
- They don t see a material difference between him and Casey
- His trade value is higher than Casey s
- He could return a top 6 forward with term (and maybe even help dump Palat in the process if that s something the Devils and Palat want to do)

Else I don t see why they would not develop him by adding him on their bottom pair as soon as next year rather than trading him.

Miller plus a pick for Nemec, Mercer and Siegenthaler? He'd look great as the C next to J. Hughes so he can play on the wing; Mercer is needed both for cap and because he's still young and Vancouver needs a C/ forward coming back, plus Jersey doesn't have the cap space so Siegenthaler and his $3ish going back would be a good add.

J. Hughes - Miller - Bratt
Palat - Hischier - Meier

We lose a top prospect at a spot you really need...Give up a fwd we can't spare who is young and a top LHD who is on a killer contract....I like Miller but he is on pace for 50 plus point season and seems he might be wearing out his welcome on yet another team....Not to mention signed to an anchor contract with total control...No ty

Tbh I don't think they have any intention of trading him unless maybe he tries to force it or a team with an abundance of similar young fwd prospects with a need for a young top defensive prospect calls them....The Devils have a lot of good prospects at defense in their system...

I'll second that HELL NO

Slafkovsky-Nemec would be a nice story. I very much doubt Mesar makes it, but they could all hang out Laval is a 20 mins subway ride away from downtown.

Get Dvorsky as well while you're at it, all the Slovaks in Montreal!

Joking aside, not sure what are NJ needs beside a middle 6 C.

Montreal will probably trade UFA to be Jake Evans at the deadline if they can't reach a deal and he certainly could contribute big on NJ's roster right now... One of the best PKers in the league, great on the dots and having a career year offensively. An excellent addition for a right now move, playoff push.

As for the + it would have to be big (I think Evans get a 2nd + prospect at the deadline), and I am not sure if a good prospect or a 1st + 2nd etc. would interest NJ at this juncture. Maybe a young cheap LHD under team control since depth is not as good there?

Evans, Montreal's or Calgary's 2025 1st top 10 protected, Struble

for

Nemec

You can flip that 1st at the deadline for even more depth.

Better offer than for Jiricek, but not maybe Nashville beats that with O'Reilly +? He's better than Evans by a fair margin still at this stage of his career as a rental.

I think Montreal top 6 would look pretty good and young for the next few years with such a trade.

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Nemec
Xhekaj - Carrier

Engstrom/Mailloux as #7.

(all 24 or under beside Carrier)

given markstroms age maybe they should be kicking tires on demko.
He is a good goalie but has durability issues not the way I think NJ goes ...Really wish Fitz would have gotten Askarov but I think three reasons stopped him..I think he had yet to ask out of Nashville and price was higher 2 he couldn't risk going into this season on potential he wanted a veteran presence in net (protecting his job move) and third Markstrom fills the spot for this year and next and serves as a bridge to get Malek and other of our young goalies up...So far the results have been good just still leaves that position uncertain in the future....

Siegenthaler has been insanely good defensively this year. But next year I’d probably just put Pesce on the left side and play Nemec over Dillon if no one is traded and Kovacevic is brought back.

Trading Simon Nemec would be a shortsighted move for the New Jersey Devils. As a young, talented defenseman, Nemec has the potential to become a cornerstone of this franchise for years to come. When I think about dynamic defensive pairings in NHL history, I can't help but recall the partnership of Scott Niedermayer and Chris Pronger during their time with the Anaheim Ducks. Just as Niedermayer and Pronger formed a formidable duo that played pivotal roles in leading their team to a Stanley Cup, Nemec and Luke Hughes have the same potential to create a legacy for the Devils. Both possess exceptional skating ability, offensive instincts, and the vision to dominate on the ice.

By holding onto Nemec and allowing him and Hughes to develop together, the Devils can build a strong foundation that could lead to multiple SCs. Instead of seeking short-term gains through a trade (p. e. Evans), Devils should focus on development of these two players.

Let's not forget that greatness takes time; investing in these players now could pay off tremendously in the future.

I think it would be unwise to resign kovacevic (3-5aav) and trade nemec who is still on entry level contract.
I think Kovacevic could be a smart signing. He is purely defense, and therefore shouldn't price himself off the team. I think Dougie would be the expendable asset, and the way I think his contract is structured he should be tradeable. The Devils would need to find a replacement for his shot though.

Trading Nemec (if it comes to that) should come from a position of strength and help the future and present. The Devils have a few holes in the lineup, and a high-end player like Nemec could help fill those holes.

Miller for Nemec and Mercer sets the Canucks up well as they embark on a quick retool. Assuming Boeser goes as well for the typical rental package of a 1st and prospect, Vancouver enters 2025-26 with a sound young core to build around:

DeBrusk-EP1-Lekkerimaki
Joshua-Mercer-UFA
Hoglander-Blueger-Garland
Heinen-Sasson-Sherwood

Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Nemec
EP2-Myers

Demko (maybe)
Silovs

+Willander, 2x 2025 1sts, Mynio, Raty, Romani
