Confirmed with Link: Nemec going, going, gone…to Calgary (for two future firsts and a second rounder)

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Nemec alone wasn’t going to get what we need ( top 6 winger /2C ) . So we got something that is more flexible in terms of assets to use to put towards getting what we need . For example , we were limited with Nemec as an assets in trade to only teams needing a RHD . With picks instead , it opens up a lot of more teams interested .

i can get behind this

Team is mostly set, no need to move 12 unless like Robertson / Quinn is available
Depends on who is there at pick #12 and who might be available via trade for #12 plus other assets . Have to be open to all possibilities.
If a stud prospect that was projected to be the top 5/6/7/8 or so slips to us at 12 ,then make the pick .
If Larkin is offered for a package that makes sense that includes pick 12 … then I’d prefer to trade it for a Larkin / Robo / Helle/ type acquisition.

I agree - there are players worth 12 but I’m not just handing that one out

I’d rather select a player in that spot
I agree with you . I’m just not that sold on this years draft and hope we can package something together to land a NHL ready stud. If that option doesn’t present itself , then I am more than happy to make pick 12 and hope he turns into a stud

It’s about opportunity cost for me. I’d like a good pick BUT if a true gamebreaker is there I’ll deal it

I do not think it's an accident that Mehta talked explicitly about players who help you outscore the other team and his first move involves sending Nemec away. There's just no guarantee that Nemec helps you do that, just a lot of red lights flashing that he won't ever reach that level.

I'm still waiting for the "Nemec had been terrible here" proof outside of some nonsense game card. In a year of absolutely crap he had some of the best moments and had better vision, shot, pass, hockey sense, and ability to get the pick to the net than Luke. He's also been more physical, and more durable. But don't let any of that stop your narrative.

How do you prove that someone is a bad player? The card that you're dismissing as nonsense is just a reflection of how he performed on the ice: the team got caved when he was out there. In a year of absolute crap good players like Dougie still tilted the ice the other way.

It was a year of absolute crap because guys like Nemec played badly. I'm thrilled that we now have a GM that gets rid of the bad players and keeps the good ones like Dougie. How refreshing. No doubt Fitz would have eventually run Dougie out of town and gotten a miserable return for a FAR better player.

the draft capital is meh. these are not quality 1st rounders.
First place teams often miss the playoffs in off years. Vegas only had 95 points this past season, only the 14th best record in the NHL. Wouldn’t take much (bad injury luck, off years, general aging - they have one of the oldest rosters in the league - in the top five oldest average rosters) for their first round pick next year to be in the mid teens, which would be great. Colorados first round pick is two years from now. A lot can happen in two years.

Exactly, it's actually better that the picks are a year or two out. Wish Vegas didn't have Marner, but it's still a fairly old team with very questionable goaltending. Colorado is even more uncertain, they're even older than Vegas. The potential for one of those two teams to fall off in the year we have their pick is there.

Gets rid of 22 year old RHD with a total of 155 games but keeps 34 year old Hamilton who was absolute garbage all season. Silly take.

I'm wondering if the addition of an early 2nd rounder may make us more willing to trade 12 OA.

I'm also wondering if Sunny is accumulating draft picks not only because they're trade chips, but also because he has high confidence in his drafting abilities and thinks he can get high value players if they're not used in trades.

Only issue is they are top 10 protected and can pushed to the following year but either way it’s always good to have extra first round picks in the back pocket.
