Yes, he's had very little production: last night and in the preseason. But what I see when he's in the middle is a guy who sees the ice and makes very good decisions with the puck. He had two feeds to Aho last night in the slot for one-timers that Aho just plain wiffed on. I don't hold the lack of points on those plays as some indication that Necas didn't do everything right, Aho just screwed up his shot. Same thing ocured multiple times in preseason...his first game he made great passes to PDG for prime chances that PDG just couldn't finish on. Sure, Necas needs to get bigger and stronger to be more effective, but if we had an opening in the center, he can play it now.
It has nothing to do with points for me. He looked respectable in the preseason and earned the shot he got. He did not look good last night. I thought it was only the one feed to Aho that he fanned on, but lets call it two... outside of that, he looked outclassed. And not that I expect him to be some defensive stalwart, but I have yet to see him do anything in his own end. Getting 6 minutes in a game like last night is pretty telling in that regard. He's physically not ready.
