Other Sports: NCAA Thread v12

I talked about Howard a little bit ago gaining some buzz. He was a bigger recruit a few years ago. He’s from the same high school as Jeremiah Smith in Florida. He’s been hurt a good bit the past two years & for a smaller guy I don’t think his testing numbers were quite what schools wanted to see. He camped at Penn State the previous summer & hit a threshold that they felt comfortable giving him the go ahead to commit.

But when he enrolled this winter there was a noticeable jump in his athletic testing that changed their outlook & it translated into spring ball on the field as well.

They’re so desperate for talent at that position right now they’re taking 4-5 recruits a cycle right now. So they can’t really get picky like perhaps some other schools can. Hopefully it works out here with Howard.

Knew this was coming but night game makes things a bit more difficult for me.

Can't believe they ruled malicious intent and ejected the runner for this. Since he was ejected he know misses today's game. Not to mention it took them SEVEN minutes to come to this conclusion

That's a bad conclusion, IMO. The runner didn't know whether to slide or what. He didn't even lower a shoulder, just kind of pushed him. Had the catcher actually caught the ball I could see it as running the catcher.

I'm 50. I grew up watching baseball in an era where catchers got run if they blocked the base-path and starters routinely went at least 7 innings. Hell, I'm not a Braves fan (I'm an O's fan), but I used to watch so many of their games on TBS just to see Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz pitch. It's a different game now. I agree with not trucking the catcher if he's clearly established with the ball, but this one was just a bad call. It was a bang-bang play. What is the runner supposed to do? Drop on the ground and play dead?

Football has gotten to be the same way. I don't even celebrate a big play anymore because I'm waiting for some bogus call....catch/no-catch, or the ever-popular late PI flag.

Some kid tried to run me over during a PRESEASON high school game. Got absolutely stonewalled and thrown out of the game. Kid wanted to crawl into a hole.
I'd have some sympathy....but you were apparently insane enough to be a catcher :) I caught for one inning in little league because our catcher couldn't make it to the game. Nope, put me back at 3rd base!
