Andy Staples said on his podcast yesterday Jimbo wants the WVU job. He doesn’t think WVU will go that direction though.

He seemed to think Barry Odom at UNLV could make the most sense. WVU’s AD Wren Baker was at Memphis & Missouri with Odom.

He mentioned Rich Rodriguez possibly too.
Rich Rod seems like a mistake. Don't know enough about Jimbo or Odom to like it or hate it. Jimbo has an NC which is something I guess.

UNLV OC Brennan Marion with the Go Go offense is kind of intriguing to me. Not sure if he's ready to be a HC but sign me up for WVU going back to the days of having an identity on offense.

Staples was laughing when he/they mentioned Jimbo. He said Jimbo definitely wants the job but he doesn’t get the sense WVU wants Jimbo.

He mentioned Jon Sumrall at Tulane too. He thinks WVU will/would have a lot of interest him. But he seems to think Sumrall might be the top choice on the market. So he thinks Sumrall might get better job offers (perhaps North Carolina).

He mentioned Shannon Dawson (Miami OC) & Mike Denbrock (Notre Dame OC) as far as coordinators go. Dawnson coached at WVU before.

But he did this last night on his podcast on On3. So it is just the Initial list of potential names that probably being fed to him through agents &/or people at WVU too.

Dawson sounds like a fit. You never know how these guys will recruit, but that makes a ton of sense. Less gimmicky than someone like Jamey Chadwell. Alex Golesh feels like a middle ground between the two. He’s gimmicky but in ways that exploit CFB specific rules in positive ways.

Staples shit all over the thought of Jimbo.

He mentioned WVU is a harder job to recruit to especially compared to their competition in the Big 12 who most of them have the state of Texas in their back yard. They’re not a robust NIL program although he thinks they’ll be a benefactor from revenue sharing.

So when you take that into account it’s hard to talk yourself into Jimbo who failed to spectacularly at Texas A&M to develop players despite having one of the most robust talent pools in the country during that time.

There’s only four P4 jobs open right now with North Carolina, West Virginia, Central Florida, & Purdue.

So there’s more names out there than higher level jobs. At this point that’s probably about it too with the way the recruiting/transfer calendar sets up. If you were planing to make a move off a coach you would have done it by now. If you have a coach leave you past this point it’s probably not of your own doing.

Apparently on top of some of the bigger schools having some coaches with big buyout numbers schools aren’t really too keen to part ways because they’re operating on the belief that revenue sharing is coming within the next year or so. So you could be talking added another $10-20M a year to your operating cost especially if you’re in the SEC & Big Ten.

That’s why you’ve seen some questionable firings at the G5 & below levels this cycle. They don’t have to worry about that & they’re looking at a better than normal pool of candidates because of the trickle down effect.

Seeing older players stick around in the NCAA and use transfer portal, NIL deals to get paid and not go to the NFL. I wonder how long before we see some guy go to the NFL, flame-out and then sue to be allowed to play college football again lol

Seider would be in the Fran Brown/Deshaun Foster mold of getting a youngish assistant that can really recruit.

I think he’s pretty much capped out at RB coach at bigger programs. Penn State has never seriously considered him of an OC job & neither has other bigger schools. When other schools like that have come it’s just to offer him a RB coach job which I think Penn State often has ponied up the cash to keep him.

I don’t think he’s really been interested in the G5 route either with the type of jobs that have come at him (like the Marshall’s of the world). Some of this was even before the SEC & Big Ten separated themselves from everybody else too.

I’d imagine he’d take it if offered. He played & coached there before. But I’d have to imagine WVU could do better. Unless you really like him & want to go the blueprint route Syracuse & UCLA went down that had relatively varying degrees of success this year.

I’ll believe Jeff Monken gets a highish profile gig when he gets it and not a second before. He’s done a fantastic job and deserves to have buzz. You just can’t run that offense in the Big 12. I guess the pro-Monken argument is that he did try to move away from it. But it also didn’t work.

Ken Niumatalolo used to have his name pop up in every search too when he was having success at Navy.

It obviously never materialized but probably did bump his pay at Navy on different occasions.

Bucks County.

That man is on another planet. It has got to be a miserable job.

Stark contrast with how Sark handled the situation by physically moving his players off of the A&M logo. Just a total lack of leadership.

Oh, and #77 coming back for his helmet killed me. It is as if he realized there was a scuffle, turned to go towards the scuffle, and then was like, "Oh, I'm definitely putting my helmet on before going in there."

I got this from the CFB Reddit and absolutely love the idea of blind rankings.

Of course I would make some tweaks, but I’m not unhappy with it.
