The last time we had a big across the board shakeup was when the PAC-12 (PAC-10 then) was one of the ones coming out on top.

The TV deals he signed were awful by all accounts. He ends up losing the conference cash cow & another top tier program in the conference now all the way to a Midwest/Northeast based conference.

So I’d imagine the Big Ten picks off the remaining PAC-12 members of value (so Oregon, Washington, Stanford, etc.) while the SEC picks off the remaining Big 12 members of value. Then both probably pick apart the ACC.

Makes sense. The West slobs want those prime Eastern time slots, the Conference slobs want those fat, throbbing Western markets.

The Western student slobs get f***ed by being slammed with a slew of local12pm starts that are hellishly tedious to tailgate for, and then the aftermath is an even bigger chore when the game ends before 4pm and you still have 12 f***ing hours of hard drinking you have to do.

So how hard does Clemson fight against the ACC being swallowed?

With UCLA joining the Big 10, all of the US universities my dad attended are members of the Big 10.

Ohio State
Illinois
Iowa
UCLA

I hope this is in order. It looks like he just toured the Midwest looking for something better before coming to his senses and heading for a coast.

Yeah i figured the Big Ten wouldn’t really have interest in those PAC-12 programs.

- USC
- UCLA
- Oregon
- Stanford
- Washington

Would they take Cal as a sixth western based school to even it out? I don’t know how much Oregon & Washington would dig in for Oregon State & Washington State. Oklahoma used to dig in hard for Oklahoma State as a package in expansion talks but ultimately left them eventually.

Oregon will be interesting because they have Uncle Phil. He has a lot of say in what happens in these parts. Not sure how loyal he is to the conference.

Oregon is definitely leaving the PAC-12. It’s more so a matter of when not if.

From their standpoint as well as the Big Ten’s it probably makes most sense to link back up with USC & UCLA. The SEC’s footprint with Texas, Texas A&M, & Oklahoma doesn’t really extend that far out. I’d imagine USC/UCLA & the Big Ten want to build a bigger stable of west coast schools for travel purposes.

Does ND make enough being independent or at some point do they feel the squeeze and join...someone. Also I hate ND

Notre Dame has their partial deal with the ACC. So as of right now they’re still tied with the ACC. They’re probably gonna hold out as long as they can. So you’re probably gonna need the Big Ten & SEC to start picking apart the ACC down to the bones for them to be left with no choice.

Didn’t ND have their own tv contract also? That was why they stayed independent.

Notre Dame got in with ACC when the Big East in basketball started getting picked apart & they needed a spot for the basketball team & their other sports.

The ACC was well behind the SEC & Big Ten even then in the pecking order so they were willing to make the concession to Notre Dame for football that neither the SEC or Big Ten would be willing to do even back then. The ACC was willing to leave Notre Dame football alone to gain another big program to their conference footprint even it didn’t come full. So if those the SEC & Big Ten consolidate even more power going from P5 to P2 then Notre Dame losses even more leverage.

Didn’t ND have their own tv contract also? That was why they stayed independent.

I don’t even think their tv deal is really that lucrative anymore compared to the field. I could be wrong but Fox is backing the Big Ten while ESPN is backing the SEC so even the big media companies are driving forces in this thing too.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but the bottom half of the PAC 12 feels like it has a landing spot in the Big 12. The bottom half of the ACC is utterly screwed.

I think the Big Ten would actually chase North Carolina, Duke, & Virginia probably over most other programs in that conference (not including Notre Dame). Those three have been linked to the Big Ten before in the rumor mill. I’d imagine Clemson, Florida State, & Miami would all go SEC.

Some of those schools that aren’t good at football or basketball in the ACC are probably f***ed though.

Yeah, I really wonder if basketball plays into things at all. Obviously it makes WAY less money than CFB, but if you have teams like UVA and UNC as roughly equal, it's a hell of a nice tiebreaker to buy one of the few Men's Basketball programs that's worth some money.

Imagine being Maryland right now. I can't see any way this goes even mildly poorly for them. Every option feels like total disaster.

The SEC really should make a play for some of these Pac 12 teams. One of the things that this gives the Big Ten and not the SEC is a true coast-to-coast national brand. The SEC's deal is already done though. The Big Ten's value will only go up with every school they add. Oregon and Washington have big cards to play.

Yeah it sounds like USC & UCLA pacted together with a decision that were leaving regardless of known landing spot & reached out to the Big Ten first about the possibility of joining. The Big Ten decided to take them assuming they would turn elsewhere next (I guess the SEC). UCLA was apparently a hold up as they didn’t want to leave Cal initially but obviously eventually pacted with USC to leave which set a departure plan in motion.

Financially they have done really well. I know Plank wanted to turn them into Oregon-lite, I'm not sure that happens but who knows.

As far as this year goes I'm not worried, they're going to win the B1G;)

Football is such an expensive sport for a college/university to carry. I can see some of the less competitive schools just dropping out of the sport. Many of these types of schools are presently dinging the students for "activities fees" to help finance the football team. There have been places where the students object to these fees. It's just a matter of time before students sue to have these costs dropped.
