I think your understanding of the value he provides is limited. He won a cup, paced over 100 points. Is almost ppg while playing with 2 rookies. Is above average defensively. 3rd in the NHL in penalties drawn. That's fantastic value at 7M. He also showed he can play a shutdown role against elite players enroute to that cup. You don't have to like him, even I don't really like him and he plays for our team. But it just makes you sound silly when you figure he's been overpaid this season.

He cashed in on one huge outlier of a season, and even then had to wait until late in free agency to find a team dumb/desperate enough to give him that contract
He was offered more from other teams and chose Calgary. It's been well established. Again, you're looking pretty silly here, but keep going if you want to. It's fair to debate what he'll be worth in 3 years. It's really dumb to say he hasn't been worth his contract this season.
Yes he is. People have a problem with tavaras' contract, not him. He's a lifetime ppg center. I love Kadri, but he's not as good as Tavares.

I don’t think anyone thinks that Kadri is a better player than Tavares. Their careers aren’t even comparable

No, you definitely are. Saying he's overpaid based on what he's bringing this season is the dumb part. It's not even remotely close.
I agree that Kadri is having a great year and Tavares isn't playing as per the norm. But I take JT over Kadri all day.
The whole point I was making is the leafs aren't adding Easton Cowen to John Tavares in Kadri trade. Or even consider doing it straight up.

The only way Kadri is going anywhere is if he wants to go to a contender this season, such as the Av's.
Other than that he stays. He is really enjoying being a leader on the Flames and playing with a couple of energetic kids.
He is one of only two remaining good centres on the team and they can build around him.
He is full value for his 7M a season.

He has more goals and points than Tavares this season. While playing with 2 rookies.He's better defensively and the far better skater. Don't be delusional. Prime Tavares is better than prime Kadri. Kadri is currently the better player.

He's been excellent in Calgary.
Huberdeau has turned a corner too, last night his line with Frost and Coronato looked awfully dangerous, and were unlucky to not score a few goals (not that they'd be allowed for some reason).
Rumours out of Calgary are that Kadri has no interest in leaving. If that ever change, there will be a lineup of teams ponying up for his services.

I love Naz, rumors are he said no to being traded at the deadline to the Avs.
I liked the signing when it happened, but thought maybe the last year or 2 would be rough, But now, with how he has played since the second half of his first season here, those concerns are pretty much gone. I am confident he'll be productive through his deal and with the way the cap is rising, 7m will be 3C money soon.
When his NMC switches to a modified NTC at the end of next season, he will have good trade value if the team decides to move on, as unlikely as I think that is.

Non-Calgary fans and a specific section of Calgary fans will disagree, but his current level of play is the exact same as his career year in Colorado. Since Christmas he’s on pace for 75 points, and since mid January he has 27 points in 26 games. All this while one of his current linemates has scored 2 goals over his last 50 games. All the while Calgary still can’t buy any goals. If Kadri was back on a high octane offensive team, that 87 point in 71 game season looks a lot less like a one off.

Not dojng more to get Kadri signed was a huge mistake from CMAC. Should have just bought out EJ or just traded Compher for picks, not sign Manson.
Imagine choosing the likes of EJ/Manson/Compher over Kadri and wasting multiple years of prime Mac/Makar. Pretty impressive level of incompetence.

Should have grown the balls to go all in for the repeat. Mack was still on his 6.2M AVV deal too. The Landeskog uncertainty didnt help though, i blame that on the useless doctors.

Trading away valuable assets to clear the cap space to sign Kadri and try to compete in some imaginary window was a huge mistake by Treliving, the actual contract though is fine. We're 40% of the way in and it's still a bargain, he will still be well worth it for the next couple years, maybe a bit overpaid at the very end but that is offset by the bargain years and the cap rising. Even if worst case he somehow turns into a pumpkin at the end (seems unlikely) there are no signing bonuses the last couple years so it can be easily bought out. Not that the Flames are likely to be capped out anytime soon and he's been a good mentor so far.
1 year later and Seth Jones was just traded for a 1st and Spencer Knight, crazy what the cap going up does

Huberdeau is still unmovable despite is resurgence. Weegar probably won't get moved because he does everything.
They will build around Wolf 100%, but of that list Kadri would be the one that could be moved, but ball is in his court. Apparently Colorado asked about him at the deadline and he refused to waive. I think that's because he doesn't want to uproot his family again, and Calgary was in a wild card race at the time. But now they sit 6 points out (with games in hand though) and with a couple more tough opponents coming up. If Calgary gets knocked out of the race in the next couple games I could see him being open to a move this summer. Not sure where he would actually waive though, maybe back to Toronto and that's about it.
