World Cup: National Team threads #2

Germany absolutely embarrassed yet again in a big match. Been all downhill since 2014. And when you look at the talent gap between themselves and the other top teams in the world it doesn’t look like this gets fixed any time soon.

Goretzka playing 90 in 2025 is

He made sense today. With a back 3 and Pavlovic, him being free to roam was fine & if there had been a little more cohesion his forward runs could've paid off more. Either way, fun game, and probably the best result we could've asked for, hopefully they beat France/Spain in the final so that they're stuck with Martinez for the real tourney

...really felt like we were in good shape until Mittelstadt came off for Gosens. Gosens was great in his union days, but he lacks reps under Nagelsmann even if we weren't down to CBs that will be fighting for the final spot on the WM roster, around Tah. So unless we get killed by injuries, don't think he should make the WM roster either.
That looked clearly off, probably bad camera angle. German defense gonna German defense.

There's a reason I don't have Koch or Anton on my WM roster

Portugal does have some damn good fowards. England has no decent goalie, nor decent CBs.
Also, how many english players have a top 3 players at their position? Kane? Maybe Saka?
Portugal has the best LB in the world, and their two young midfielders are already among the best.
Bruno is also one of the best 10 around.

Ignoring Jude while hyping Bruno is peak Evilo :sarcasm:

At least he didn't start Kimmetzka together, though he should have used an actual 6 with Pavlovic.

You're making a mountain out of a molehill by ignoring that we started with a back 3 before shifting to exactly that...

We need Wirtziala together and two of Rudi / Tah / Nico anchoring the defense, to win it all next summer. But that's not news.

We looked good until Gosens came on for Mittelstädt, despite all of the absences. How anyone less simple than our good friend Jack could act like that was anything other than encouraging is beyond me :dunno:

Portugal had missing players too. Yet carved up Germany at times with an idiot for a coach.

I just don’t see how this team can beat the field and take the WC. Way too many holes.

They’re basically in the also ran category. Couple great players, could advance far if fortunate, but no guaranteed results. So like England in 2014. Comfortably in the B tier with the Netherlands and Italy now. Portugal, France, Spain above the rest and England right behind them.
