You can always to in-private browsing (worked a week or two ago for me). I just use the mobile (although they've screwed that up).

It's been that way all season, it's only $5.99 for a monthly subscription, free if you get the paper.

I wouldn't give a red cent to the Dispatch. As others have said, clear your cookies and viola!

I'm a big believer in supporting who ever is in the team, but plain and simple this guy is getting paid way too much money to be producing at the rate he is. If I were given the raise that he got at my place of work there's no way I'd have survived this long at my job. Some might say hockey is not applicable to real world jobs and I agree, I'm not suggesting we cut him, but he should be demoted.

MGT has finally revealed that Horton has a lower body injury, and it may take some time to heal.. How long he has been playing with this injury is unclear.

I, as in my opinion, think he's thinking of that repaired shoulder too...

I'm willing to cut him some slack given his shoulder and now it's apparent he's been playing with another nagging injury.

However, we shouldn't delude ourselves. Horton is a 30-30-60 guy in a great year and is more likely a 20-30-50 guy most years from here on out. I was really surprised when people asked Portzline almost a year ago after we signed him if Horton would be better than Rick Nash. We didn't get a 40 goal All-Star, we got a gritty forward a la Foligno and Dubinsky who has shown that he is capable of stepping it up in the postseason.

Horton is coming off a major surgery and had not played 6 months(?). He had no camp, a new team and a new system. I think his history of play should buy him a little grace. Add this lower body injury and this is a lost year for him. He's a competitor and professional, I think he will earn his contract and be ready to go next year. I'm going to cut him some slack but he needs to perform when he gets a full off season healthy.

I will certainly cut him some slack and reserve judgement on his play until next year. He's been through a lot in the last year.

I won't cut Jarmo slack in signing him and expecting him to step in and be a difference maker after the surgery and omission of conditioning and acclimation, to the tune of doing zilch nada nothing at the deadline.

Not sure I get the correlation between Jarmo's signing Horton & his lack of a big deal at the deadline. Two separate issues. At the time of the deadline Horton was still semi-productive wasn't he? He didn't go MIA till March.

There is no direct correlation; but it's a scenario that should have been accounted for. Nothing against you (I enjoy your posting); but I'm struggling to understand why this is a hard concept to understand (forward thinking). Agreeing or not agreeing is one thing; missing the big picture is another.

We know that we have a borderline top line player (we only had two true top line players at the time; Johansen and Gaborik) in Horton. We knew that Horton was still suffering some shoulder pain; I don't remember the exact timeline in which the story came out but they had to know internally. We have no way of knowing if they knew there was some chronic lower body issues they were fighting. Regardless; even if serviceable he wasn't playing anywhere close to his peak level and they knew he likely wasn't going to improve much as the year went on.

They knew they were going to dump Gaborik and they knew we were very susceptible to injury at our highest levels in forward skill. They also knew that they were only going to get a shell of Horton. They left us in a very precarious position at forward. We decided to support the blueline with Schultz, a guy that wasn't going to play in the event we were healthy.

If we had brought in a top six player; would he have been sitting on the bench? Could he have helped with our scoring issues? How many points would we have?

Are the conditional picks worth more than risking missing out on the playoffs?

We did not action on the information at hand. Maybe we tried to action (although I see no evidence of that). If we did; it wasn't communicated to us. Right now I'd rather have Gaborik (or Hemsky) over Schultz. I would have preferred that at the deadline as well.

This was the kind of thing that Howson pulled on a regular basis. Normally I don't care about what the rest of the world does; but we technically sold why the rest of the teams around he bought. We sold when we knew we were weak on top six forward depth. Not a good plan.

Was Horton really expected to make that much of a difference this year? (Source?)

My recollection was that this was pretty much a goner year since he wasn't supposed to be back until Dec/Jan, and even then the only benefit that was expected was maybe for the playoffs (if we made them this year). I'd say looking at the contract Jarmo expects things over time with this and to be steady during the season and clutch when the CBJ are a perennial playoff team (ala the role Horton had on Boston).

Not sure where you are going with this. They would probably never advertise their true expectations and if they didn't have high expectations it just feeds into my theory that they didn't plan very well for this eventuality.

I'm sure the expectation was that he would improve as the season went on; not regress. The latter seems to be the case.

I am not sure what to think of Horton right now. I am going to assume he's been playing hurt. If Horton is less than 100% then he needs to sit until next year. This team plays better without a less-than-100% Horton. Even if we make the playoffs, I want him to sit if he is not 100%

He is hurt, and yes I agree he shouldn't be put back in until he's closer to 100%, he was hurting the team playing injured.

97.1 guys just said they are hearing Horton has a sports hernia and is likely done for the year.

They speculated based on JD's previous interview. There isn't been official word; although that type of injury would make sense and it would explain his play over the last month.

I was listening to the same thing you were.

Based on non-surgical methods of dealing with this, I would say that he could return (assuming this speculation is accurate). Especially if we make it past the first round.

He hasn't been shut down long enough to deal with the chronic inflammation.
