Friedman: Nashville's not too interested in taking steps backwards

I mean I like Friedman just fine, but trading for Haula isn't an indication of anything right now, other than Trotz needs a warm body. Now if he does something silly at the draft or for free agency then I see it as an indication of something.

That said, Nashville gets a new majority owner on July 1st, his brother owns the Cleveland Browns, so who knows wtf is about to happen based on that.

I wouldn't like to take a step backwards either if I wasn't able to turn my head to see where I was going.

Net worth doesn’t necessarily equate to the willingness to lose money. David Thompson is the richest owner in the sport and the Jets were lowkey threatening Winnipeg about fan/corporate support this season. Hasso Plattner is Top 5 and the Sharks didn’t fully commit to a tear down until roughly the 4th season (Meier trade) of their current playoff drought.
Sure, but their ownership situation is far different than it was just a couple of years ago. It's also far different than most small markets. He's worth substantially more than the Canes owner for example and isnt even close to the richest member of his family. I'm just not sure your comment holds any merit regarding Nashville right now. No one can be until we get a look at what happens under a new owner.

He is also a former Governor, and as owners go, I'm not sure how many of those are floating around.

His brother is an idiot in Cleveland, there has been rumors for years that both were in on some pretty dumb stuff at the University of Tennessee. We really have no idea what he wants to do, how much say he wants, or which direction things should go.

Hoping for some nice internal growth from Stamkos (35), Josi (35 with a complex ailment), Marchessault (34), O’Reilly (34), Haula (34), Sissons (31), Skjei (31), Saros (30), Forsberg (30), McCarron (30), Bunting (29), Smith (29), Englund (29), and Lauzon (28), eh?

Bold strategy.
They would have better results in all honesty if Trotz was coaching that roster

Why? Most teams are looking to take major steps backward.

Good reporting to uncover one team bucking the trend.
Non hockey market and the GM says we’re going to take a step back. Not that there are media to report or fans to really understand, but the GM just isn’t going to publicly announce that kind of direction. It’s Nashville!

I've been saying it for a while, we can't really come out and say our team sucks ass and we're going for McKenna if we wanted to sell tickets.

No kidding… Trotz has only ever intended to try to make the playoffs and win hockey games.

Now, his “trying” has been abysmal. And he very likely won’t succeed any better next season. But still. It’s always going to be his intention to try to take steps forward.
:help:

If it's true Nashville isn't rebuilding and still somehow magically wants to "go for it," wouldn't they then put the #5 overall on the block. They should be able to get a very nice vet player + for that.

Yeah, they're not doing that.

I'll never bet on a team trading a top 5 pick because that basically never happens, but what is the point of taking an 18 year old kid when they core of their roster is 30 years old +.

They should either be going all in around Stamkos, Machessault, O'Reilly, Foresberg, Josi, Skjei, and Saros right now...Or start selling them off and retooling/rebuilding.

Because we have a shit ton of prospects but we need quality.

We've already been retooling, we have 8 1st rounders on our team not including the three in this years draft and next year's high first.

Surin, Wood, Molendyk, Kemell, Svechkov, ZLH, Edstrom, Schaefer.

So no.5 will fit in with them, not O'Reilly and Josi.

We already went all in with that core last year, it didn't work out and now we're keeping the same coach.

You show 'em, Barry!!

Keep doubling down until there's no doubt that you've shown everyone that you're the worst GM in the league.
