He had already said he would report, right? He was in the midst of already backing down when the trade came through. And anyway, I'm not sure how much of a "distraction" a guy who isn't there really is to the team anyway, right? Like, our reporters would be asking Josi or Forsberg every day how they felt about the Askarov situation? Hardly. Our reporters wouldn't have even been asking Trotz!

It would have been a distraction to us here on the message board, sure. Maybe we could use that distraction! :D
I don't recall him backing down, it didn't last long enough for him to back down. If I recall he basically said he would show up to camp, but I seem to recall there was still a huge question if he would report to Milwaukee.

Keep in mind he missed all of San Jose's training camp, which means he would have missed ours too, which means he would have ended up back in Milwaukee to start the season. With Brunette the way he was I'm not sold he ever would have made it back up or gotten to play much. I think Askarov knew that, so telling him if he had a good camp he would be here was never going to happen, he knew himself he was hurt which meant there was no camp to prove anything.

Good point.

I do believe Askarov probably sticks around at least for a year or two if Wedgewood doesn't sign that deal. I had no problem with the idea of "handing" him the backup job. I mean, the relative risk of that vs. having Wedgewood (who is bad anyway) as an option is really not worth worrying about.

And then, when things went south this year, we'd have options going forward in net.

I’m just wondering if they put a for sale sign up by Bridgestone Arena
Sure doesn't feel the same the same in the arena! Could be team play/losses/performance but seems like something else.

Fewer familiar faces in the upper bowl. And more open seats! Season tickets seem to be off but wouldn't be surprised if they are off significantly! And lots of discounted secondary market tickets around me!

Regretting I signed up for another season but thankful the Preds didn't offer 3 year
packages! I don't like selling my seats but will until things turnaround.

So i take it we really didnt care to get Jiricek considering that return from the Wild seems easy to beat given our massive surplus of picks
It seems like nearly no teams really cared for him with that return. Though really, a young depth d-man, a 1st and a 2nd isn't that bad. It's not "recent 6th overall" hype level, but that just means more than enough GMs thought there were red flags to not merit that.

We dropped to half this season. If I can drop to a quarter next season, and keep my seats, I’ll probably do it. If they tell me I can’t keep my seats it might change the calculus but we’ll see.

Near where sand and waves meet.
Fabbro - signed in March, put on waivers and lost.
Askarov - still on ELC when we bring in two more goalies then trade him away.
Wedgwood - the guy brought in as the backup that helped push Askarov to that decision. Traded away.
Tomasino - Signed just before camp then traded for a late round pick in 2027.

What the self-molesting hell is Trotz doing?

I can't believe the Preds couldn't have offered more for Jiricek. Exactly the kind of player we need in Brunette's system and it's not like we don't have a ton of spare picks in the next few drafts.

It's highly likely IMO we offered our two late firsts this year. If only we had a RHD like Hunt to offer in the return - maybe someone like Fabbro? I wonder if Columbus would be interested in him.
